Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is said that life without water is not possible. As a result, the facility of clean water should be made free of charge across the globe. I disagree with the statement and my inclination will be discussed with appropriate reasons and pertinent example in the ensuing paragraphs.
To commence with, excess availability of essential thing leads unnecessary wastage. To elaborate, it is observed that whenever anything is available in abundance and provided free of cost, the value of thing is reduced. As a result, many people does not value the thing and hence waste the water without thinking about its ramifications. Another negative point of free water facility is that it can cause financial burden on individual. To explain, high cost and advance technology is required for the treatment of waste water to convert it into drinkable. Hence, in order to provide free water facility, government might increase tax amount on other commodities, which will eventually leads to increase in living expense ratio of the nation.
Apart from this, less than 1% of overall water is fresh water which is drinkable. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout the essay. Your arguments regarding the potential for waste and the economic burden of water treatment are relevant and logically developed. However, the essay ends abruptly mid-sentence, which prevents a full conclusion. While the main ideas are supported, the explanation of the scarcity of fresh water could have been more tightly linked to the argument against free water to ensure a more cohesive flow. To reach a higher band, ensure that all arguments are fully concluded and that the link between the premise (scarcity) and the conclusion (pricing) is explicitly stated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and you use some cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'To elaborate', and 'In conclusion'. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as in the third paragraph where the transition between the statistics of water distribution and the argument for pricing is somewhat abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the abrupt ending of the final sentence disrupts the overall coherence of the piece. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph transitions smoothly into the next will help improve this score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'ramifications', 'saline', and 'commodities'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'excess availability' (should be 'excessive'), 'increase in living expense ratio' (should be 'cost of living'), and 'basic nesseity' (spelling error). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your argument. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and proofreading for common spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many people does not value', 'Earth constitute'), article usage ('the facility of clean water'), and awkward phrasing ('as a scarcity of drinkable water make it more valuable'). While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. You should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
