Student answer (Band 6.0)
No, households should not have free water supply. Even though I agree that water is a basic human right but it doesn’t mean that it should be free of cost. Water is vital for all living beings and making it free can cause water scarcity . In addition , fresh water is limited and filtering water also costs money. Filtering requires manpower and that uses money.
Firstly, people will forget the importance of fresh water if it is available for free at homes. We know that water is vital for every living being and only three percent of the total water available on Earth is fresh water. We need fresh water for drinking , watering crops and much more. Almost every human activity includes use of it and making it free will put fresh water bodies under threat. It will be better to put drinking taps in some parts of city rather than making it free of cost for everyone.
Secondly, not every area in the world has access to fresh water and water in these areas needs to be filtered before being used. Filterartion is an expensive process as water has to go through many phases. If this water is available for free then it will put presssure on the public funds and the government. Which in end will increase the tax imposed on the people.
All in all, water supply should not be free of cost but there can be water taps or plants at several parts of city for drinking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position that water should not be free. The ideas are relevant, focusing on water scarcity and the economic burden of filtration. However, the development is somewhat limited; while the points are logical, they could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion is brief but summarizes the main argument effectively. Overall, the response fulfills the requirements of the task by presenting a clear viewpoint and supporting it with coherent arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In addition' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is functional but lacks a smooth, cohesive link. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the distinct points of the argument, contributing to the overall clarity of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'water scarcity', 'filtration', and 'public funds'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Filterartion' and 'presssure'. To improve, the student should aim to incorporate a wider variety of collocations and more precise academic terminology to demonstrate a higher level of lexical control and flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'Which in end will increase' (fragmentary structure) and 'water in these areas needs to be filtered before being used' (passive voice is used correctly, but the sentence structure could be more varied). Punctuation errors, such as unnecessary spaces before commas, are also present. The student demonstrates a reasonable command of grammar, but more consistent accuracy and a wider range of complex structures are needed for a higher band.
