Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this globalised era, it is accepted that access to clean water is a human right. Some people coincide that every home should receive a free water supply. However, I disagree with them and proffer that clean water should be available to all, but it should not be provided free of charge.
Compelling evidences are obtainable to demonstrate the notion of making clean water accessible to everyone. The paramount reason is that safe water is essential for maintaining public health and preventing diseases. To go hand in hand, a rationale which drags me to persist is that poor families may be unable to afford a supply of clean water. The subsequent feature which is incontestable to be accounted is that governments have a responsibility to support disadvantaged communities. To uphold my article of faith, I would jot down an illustration of low-income families who could benefit from subsidised water services.
What is half full for some, may appear half empty to others, so the public discriminate that providing unlimited water free of charge is impractical. To commence with, some people reckon that free water could encourage unnecessary consumption, whilst they also justify that governments would have to spend huge amounts on treatment and maintenance.
To synopsize, I pen down saying that there are robust factors underpinning the fact that clean water should be available to everyone at an affordable price. Ergo, its contrary can be overlooked. Consequently, I disagree with providing every household with an unlimited free water supply.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the essay is 249 words long, failing to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. This under-length results in a penalty, as the development of ideas is slightly curtailed. While the arguments regarding public health and economic feasibility are relevant, they are somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your examples and ensure your word count comfortably exceeds the minimum to allow for full development of your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However', 'To commence with', and 'To synopsize'. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, such as 'To go hand in hand' or 'To uphold my article of faith', which do not always fit the context naturally. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a more natural, sophisticated structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary, attempting some less common items like 'proffer', 'incontestable', and 'synopsize'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice or unnatural collocations, such as 'coincide' (instead of 'concur' or 'agree'), 'compelling evidences' (evidence is uncountable), and 'I pen down saying'. These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on using vocabulary that fits the academic register more naturally and ensure you are using words in their correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are persistent errors in grammar and phrasing, such as 'the public discriminate that' (should be 'the public argue that') and 'its contrary can be overlooked'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structures sometimes feel slightly rigid. To improve, focus on reducing minor grammatical slips and ensuring that your complex sentence constructions are accurate and contribute to the clarity of your argument.
