Student answer (Band 6.0)

Every human should have an access to clean water. Since it is a basic right, I strongly agree that every household should be supplied with free of charge water. This essay will discuss the importance of clean water and will provide my insights.

One reason why is support this view is because the water is considered as a basic human right and since it is a right the government has to invest more and try to supply the water free of cost to the public. Moreover, this can be helpful in reducing famine in many areas. For instance, government of Rwanda have taken an initiative to build wells in their country. Meanwhile, this will not only help the county to develop but it will also help the people in accessing clean water.

Another important factor is that, water is an essential part of agriculture. Hence, having an access to clean water will help the farmers to grow crops. However, If the farmers do not have an access to good water then it will have an impact on their agricultural produce. For example, Officials in India have introduces policy which states that the people associated with agriculture will not have to pay the water tax. Furthermore, this will positively impact a lot of poor farmers.

Therefore, it is equally important for every individual to have an access to clean water. Although some countries have formulated policies for the farmers, I firmly believe that since it is considered a basic human right, the government should provide free water supply to all the people of a country. Consequently it will have an healthy impact on a country's economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding human rights and agricultural benefits are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the link between free water and 'reducing famine' is asserted but not fully explained or logically connected to the specific context of household supply. The examples provided, such as the mention of Rwanda and India, are relevant but could be more effectively integrated to support the main argument. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of analysis remains at a general level rather than a fully developed one.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', 'Another important factor', and 'Consequently' are used to guide the reader. However, there is some mechanical use of these devices, and the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though the transition between the idea of 'famine' and 'wells' in the second paragraph could be smoother to enhance the overall progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'formulated policies' and 'agricultural produce'. However, there are recurring issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'an access to' (access is an uncountable noun here), 'an healthy impact', and 'the government of Rwanda have taken' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over articles and collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a consistent issue with the use of the indefinite article 'an' before 'access' and 'healthy', which is a recurring grammatical error. Additionally, there are minor errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'government... have taken' and 'Officials... introduces policy'. While the meaning is always clear and the errors do not cause difficulty for the reader, the frequency of these small grammatical slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to article usage and verb tense consistency would improve the accuracy.
