Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is fundamental rights of human beings to have access to clean water for their basic needs. So, it should be free of cost for everyone, because every individual can't afford to buy it from store or a water plant. I absolutely agree with this statement as clean water is essential part of daily life.

On the one hand, clean water should provided free of cost for everyone especially for the needy people of our society, implementing the tax on water or selling it for money will affects the poor community. Moreover, in third world countries people are dying due to lack of water and polluted water, so it is responsibility of agencies and government to provide them with clean water, atleast for drinking purpose.

On the other hand, clean water is not only beneficial for cooking, drinking but it will reduce the waterborne diseases in communities. Additionally, unpolluted water will reduce the burden on healthcare centers in country ,as people will have access to drinkable water. For instance, in developed countries like in the Switzerland and the Norway public have free access to clean water so there are very minute number of water diseases.

Some people argue that free water will cause overconsumption or financial constraints on the government but this can overcome by using a smart water system can control the overuse of water and it also lowers the economic burden on healthcare.

In conclusion, drinkable water should provided to public as it reduces the healthcare problems. By prioritizing this government can increases the social justice and improve sustainable development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments regarding the necessity of clean water and the potential benefits for public health. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the counter-argument regarding 'financial constraints' is introduced but not fully explored or refuted with sufficient depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is elaborated with more specific reasoning or evidence. While the examples of Switzerland and Norway are relevant, they are brief. Expanding on the 'how' and 'why' behind your arguments would strengthen the overall task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as in the final paragraph where 'this' refers back to a complex idea. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the flow between sentences could be improved by varying the structure of your cohesive links. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the essay would benefit from more sophisticated linking words to improve the natural flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fundamental rights,' 'waterborne diseases,' and 'sustainable development' correctly. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'implementing the tax' (should be 'imposing a tax') and 'very minute number of water diseases' (should be 'a very low incidence of waterborne diseases'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. To improve, focus on collocations and ensuring that words are used in their most natural context. The current range is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include missing articles ('in the Switzerland'), subject-verb agreement issues ('clean water should provided'), and awkward phrasing ('this can overcome by using'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some missing spaces after commas. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on ensuring that your complex structures are error-free and pay closer attention to basic verb forms and article usage, which are currently inconsistent.
