Student answer (Band 6.0)

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right. I believed that every home should need to a clean water but I do not agree that every house should have a water free of charge.

To begin with, fresh water is quite essential for human health. To elaborate, clean water provide healthier lifestyle, if people do not get fresh water they can suffer different type of diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera. As a result, In Bangladesh, many people continue go hospital and doctors and nurses can not provide a appropriate treatment. Additionally, several people, specially rural areas people still suffer for clean water. For example, a thousand of people go far distance for collecting water. Moreover, water plays a vital role for daily household activities and obtain clean water reduce inequality among people.

However, provided water totally free of cost for each home is not realistic. This is because government do not find enough fund to maintain water supply and water distributes water for plants treatment, pipe line, and other residential work. Furthermore, if government provides free resources for every home people can not use it properly. For instance, many develop countries, provide water free of charge and then people waste this resources to do unnecessary work.

In conclusion, although clean water is a fundamental human right because it can save people's lives, I believed that provide fresh water free of costs is not realistic and appropriate because government maintain a wide range of essential work and people do not use water carefully when they get if free of charge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position that while water is a right, it should not be free of charge. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed; for instance, the claim that people in developed countries waste water when it is free could be supported with more specific evidence or a more nuanced explanation. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that the supporting examples are more precise and directly linked to the core argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'However' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or the referencing is unclear, such as in the sentence 'water distributes water for plants treatment'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the transition between the health benefits of water and the economic argument could be smoother. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'fundamental human right' and 'essential', which are used correctly. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice or collocation errors, such as 'provide healthier lifestyle' (should be 'promotes a healthier lifestyle') and 'obtain clean water reduce inequality' (should be 'obtaining clean water reduces inequality'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('clean water provide', 'government do not find'), article usage ('a appropriate treatment'), and verb tense consistency ('I believed that' instead of 'I believe'). These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, specifically ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that articles are used correctly before nouns. Complex structures are attempted but often contain minor errors.
