Student answer (Band 6.5)

Water is one of the most basic essentials of life and it is often debated that every household should have a free access to clean water supply. I strongly agree to the statement as water is not something luxury in fact it is something humans need as thier basic right.

Firstly, water is as necessary to humans as food and air. It is not just a part of our diet but it is also essential for various every day tasks such as laundry, bathing and other cleaning purposes. This is not something which someone may compromise on which is the reason it should be provided to every household all around the globe. The utilities such as electricity and gas bills are already a burden on residents so the state should show significant concerns in providing clean water free of cost to everyone. It will create a lot of convenience for the people as they shall not be charged for their basic right and it will also create a sense of relief especially for the poor people who are already struggling with their lives.

Secondly, providing people with clean drinking water free of cost will have great effects on the health overall. For instance, there are a lot of health issues regarding gut and kidney problems when humans consume unclean water. Hospials are filled with patients who are not well because of the water they drink. The goverments can save a lot of money from health departments just by providing people with pure water which will automatically decrease the number of patients visiting hospitals on daily basis.

In conclusion, I believe that it is the responsibility of the state to ensure clean water supply to every house free of cost as it is very cruicial for basic human health and the well being of society in general.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response clearly addresses the prompt and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding the necessity of water for daily life and the potential public health benefits are relevant and well-supported. The essay covers all parts of the task, though the development could be slightly more nuanced. For instance, while you mention the burden of utility bills, you could briefly acknowledge the counter-argument regarding the economic feasibility of free water to demonstrate a more balanced perspective. Overall, the ideas are logically extended and the response is fully focused on the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, such as the necessity of water for daily tasks and the health implications. Cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions between sentences within paragraphs are slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task. The progression of ideas is smooth and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas with precision. Phrases like 'basic human right', 'significant concerns', and 'well being of society' are used appropriately. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'thier' instead of 'their' and 'cruicial' instead of 'crucial'. While you use some less common vocabulary, the range is not yet wide enough to consistently demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are some grammatical errors, such as 'it is often debated that every household should have a free access' (should be 'have free access') and 'Hospials are filled' (spelling error), these do not impede communication. You show good control over basic grammar, and the majority of your sentences are clear. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more variety in complex sentence structures and ensure greater accuracy in articles and pluralization.
