Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world where clean water has been declared as a human right, some people believe that getting access to drinkable water at their home should be provided without any charges by their governments. I am of the view that water being an essential natural resource should be made available to public at free of cost by the governments.

The main reason for this is that the water is one of the crucial necessity of human being to survive on this planet and consequently, access to clean water has been declared a basic human right by many countries. Consequently, the governments, first, should provide water supply to all its residents and second, water being a critical human need, should be available at free of cost. For instance, many nations have made rapid infrastructures of water supply to rural as well as urban areas so that all people can enjoy the safe water without trouble and expenditure.

Furthermore, by providing the clean water free to all people at their residence, governments will help in reducing the extra burden of expense from people's pocket becuase many people who are in tough financial situation might not be able to afford cost of clean water for their day to day purpose. In my example, in Delhi, a state in India, the government has made drinking water accessible at free of cost to its all residents. Moreover, many countries has prohibited pacakged drinking water companies to charge any money from public for selling their water bottles.

In conclusion, safe water being a living essential need, should be provided by the governments to its all people and the governments should not charge any money for it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding human rights and financial relief are relevant and logically extended. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second and third paragraphs, where the same points are restated. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore the counter-argument (e.g., the economic burden on governments or the potential for water wastage if it is free) to provide a more balanced and nuanced discussion. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but the overall depth of analysis remains somewhat limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', and 'For instance' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'Consequently' at the start of sentences in the second paragraph. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as 'In my example' which is a bit informal. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, which helps the reader follow your argument, but the flow between sentences could be improved by varying the structure of your cohesive links.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'essential natural resource', 'infrastructure', and 'prohibited'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing or minor errors in word choice, such as 'at free of cost' (should be 'free of charge' or 'at no cost') and 'rapid infrastructures' (which is not a standard collocation). You also have some spelling errors like 'becuase' and 'pacakged'. To improve, focus on learning standard collocations and proofreading for common spelling mistakes to ensure your vocabulary is used with greater precision and naturalness.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the water is one of the crucial necessity') and prepositional usage ('at free of cost'). Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, as seen in 'many countries has prohibited'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on mastering the use of articles and ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree, especially when dealing with plural nouns and collective entities.
