Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people believe that it is a basic human right of every household to have access to clean water therefore it should be provided free of cost through water supply. I completely agree with this view, as water is a basic human necessity that every individual should be able to access without having to pay for it.
Firstly, water is essential for basic human survival and is required for various basic activities, such as drinking cooking and maintaining personal hygiene, therefore everyone should have access to clean water regardless of their financial situation. If people are required to pay high prices for their basic water supply, low income families may struggle to afford enough water for their daily needs. For this reason, providing a basic supply of clean water free of charge can help ensure a minimal standard of living for everyone.
Secondly, providing free access to clean water can contribute significantly to public health. clean water is essential to prevent water borne diseases. for example, drinking a contaminated water can cause typhoid and cholera etc. if the government ensures that households have access to safe water supply, the number of diseases can be reduced and overall health of population can be improved, therefore providing free and safe access of water can not only be beneficial for the individual but also for the society.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that every household should have access to clean water free of cost. This is because water is essential for human survival and providing clean water can prevent diseases and improve public health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response clearly addresses the prompt and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding basic human survival and public health are relevant and logically extended. However, the development is somewhat limited; while the points are clear, they could benefit from more specific examples or a deeper exploration of the economic implications of 'free' water to reach a higher band. The introduction and conclusion are present, but the overall depth of the argument remains at a standard level. The response covers all parts of the task well, but the ideas are not fully developed in a way that would demonstrate a more sophisticated or nuanced perspective.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'For this reason' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and there is a slight overuse of simple conjunctions like 'and' and 'therefore' to link clauses. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between sentences could be more varied to improve the overall flow and coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication of ideas. The student uses topic-specific terms such as 'human necessity', 'personal hygiene', 'water-borne diseases', and 'contaminated'. While the range is sufficient, it lacks the more sophisticated or less common lexical items that would characterize a higher band. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede meaning, but the vocabulary remains relatively functional rather than precise or idiomatic. To improve, the student should aim to incorporate more varied collocations and academic synonyms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring punctuation errors, such as missing commas in lists ('drinking cooking and maintaining') and inconsistent capitalization at the start of sentences ('clean water is essential'). There are also some minor grammatical slips, such as 'a contaminated water' (uncountable noun) and 'health of population' (missing article). The majority of sentences are error-free, but the frequency of punctuation and minor grammatical inaccuracies prevents the essay from reaching a higher band for accuracy.
