Student answer (Band 5.5)

Clean water is a basic human necessity and it should be accessable. Therefore, it should be provided free and every home should have easy water supply. I am totally disagree with this statement. Clean water requires a proper plan and management for its purity and it should be cost some rupees also people value those things which are pricy fo them.

Filtered water requires a lot of work as most water comes from the rivers and oceans and it is goes through a process of filteration in order to accessable for people to drink. Furthermore, It costs a lot of money to filter it, therefore it should not be free. For instance, in New York, most people are buying water from government and they are paying for it.

Another reason to add is people are wasting water from years and now it is becoming impossible for government to provide it for free. Moreover, people value those things which are unaccessable for them. Same in case of water, they should pay its price so it should be accessable for everyone to use. For example, Dawn shows that the quantity of clean water reduces surprisingly as more people are wasting it and polluting it by other means such as water pollution which is harmful for clean water as well as for marine life.

In conclusion, clean and filtered water should cost some price as it is a great lesson for people to not to waste it and for its process it should be charged for providing it to people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against free water. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the cost of filtration and the psychological value of paid services, the arguments remain superficial. For instance, the example of New York is vague and lacks sufficient detail to fully support the point. To improve, you should expand on the economic or social implications of your argument rather than repeating the idea that people value things more when they pay for them. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating points already made rather than synthesising them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a central focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Another reason', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between sentences can be abrupt. For example, the shift from the cost of filtration to the New York example lacks a smooth connection. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as the mention of 'Dawn' without context, which disrupts the reader's understanding of your supporting evidence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'it is goes through a process of filteration' and 'cost some rupees'. You also use 'unaccessable' incorrectly; the correct term is 'inaccessible'. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'marine life' and 'water pollution', the overall range is limited, and the repetition of basic words like 'water' and 'people' makes the writing feel somewhat simplistic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('it is goes'), article usage ('the government'), and word formation ('accessable' instead of 'accessible'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors would significantly improve your score.
