Student answer (Band 5.5)
in this modern era, water play significant role in everyone's life whether it is humans or any organism living on this planet. There ought to access clean and safe drinking water to free from plethora of diseases. however, healthy water is the basic human right and it can be provided without any charge. I partially agree with this notion.
Commencing with most salient reason, why it is basic requirement for every individuals to drink clean water and should be free of cost. Firstly, water is not only for drinking but also used for cooking, hygiene and sanitation. without it communities are vulnerable diseases such as cholera, typhoid, all of these can be prevented with the access of clean water. For example, in Africa, where millions people lacks safe water access, avoidable waterborne diseases leads to more deaths each year. In this context, government have a duty to ensure that no citizens are denied their basic resource, especially in rural or affluent areas.
on the other hand, providing unlimited free water to every home engenders serious logistical and financial challenges. however, water treatment, maintenance of pipelines and distribution all require finding skilled labor and dedicated infrastructure. if the water is completely free, there would be little incentive for consumers to use it reasonably. moreover, free water leads to huge wastage of water frequently and leads to lack of water in the future. their must be some restrictions on the amount on usage of water.
in the conclusion, water is basic need of every human and it would free of charge but some drawbacks of it as when access is free the citizens usually use more water then their need and leads to shortage and wastage of water.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument, acknowledging the importance of water as a human right while highlighting the practical challenges of providing it for free. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the logistical and financial challenges of free water, these points could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more thorough exploration of the implications of your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Commencing with', 'Firstly', 'on the other hand', and 'in the conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the benefits of water and the logistical challenges. The use of linking words is generally effective, but the essay would benefit from a wider variety of cohesive devices to improve the overall flow and connectivity of the arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at using less common items like 'plethora', 'salient', and 'engenders'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'water play significant role' (should be 'plays a significant role') and 'vulnerable diseases' (should be 'vulnerable to diseases'). Additionally, there are minor spelling and grammatical errors that occasionally affect the precision of your expression. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that your word choices are contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('government have a duty', 'their must be some restrictions') and article usage ('in the conclusion', 'the access of clean water'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas and capitalization errors at the start of sentences. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will significantly improve your writing.
