Student answer (Band 6.0)

As far as this topic is concerned, I would like to say that the access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge , which has always been debatable and has now become more controversial with many people claiming that it is beneficial while others reject this notion. The substantial influence of this trend has sparked the controversy over the potential impact in the recent years. From my perspective, the former proposition appears to be more rational. This essay will further elaborate my views for favoring the positive or negative impact of this trend and thus will lead to a logical conclusion.

Analyzing the statement further, the primary reason is clean water is essential for human life and good health. Every person needs water for drinking, cooking, washing, and other basic necessities.Categorically discussing, it cannot be ignored that the main reason behind this is that especially in our country, it has far-reaching consequences. This can create serious problems, especially in areas where water resources are limited. A reasonable water bill can encourage people to use water carefully and responsibly.

Moving further, it is pertinent to mention that it is the basic duty of the government to provide a safe and stable society for the betterment of the public. It is imperative for the authorities concerned to look into the factor behind this issue and take a drastic action against the concerned persons.

To encapsulate, I would like to appeal to the learned figures to come forward, focus their gaze at this issue and launch a vigorous campaign to reform it across the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt but lacks depth in argumentation. While you state your position that water should not be free, the development is limited. You mention that a 'reasonable water bill can encourage people to use water carefully,' which is a strong point, but it is not sufficiently expanded with examples or logical consequences. The introduction is somewhat generic and uses 'filler' phrases like 'which has always been debatable' that do not directly address the specific prompt. To improve, focus on providing concrete evidence or real-world examples to support your claims rather than using vague, repetitive language about 'learned figures' or 'drastic action.'

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the idea of water as a human right and the argument for charging for it is abrupt. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moving further' and 'To encapsulate,' but they feel mechanical and do not always connect the ideas effectively. Additionally, the final paragraph contains a repetitive sentence, which disrupts the flow of the conclusion. Improving the logical link between your sentences and ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on somewhat repetitive and vague phrases such as 'substantial influence,' 'far-reaching consequences,' and 'learned figures.' While these words are used correctly, they do not demonstrate a sophisticated command of language. There is an attempt to use academic tone, but it often results in wordiness rather than clarity. To improve, try to use more specific terminology related to economics or public policy, such as 'subsidization,' 'resource management,' or 'fiscal responsibility,' to better articulate your arguments.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical issues, such as the missing article in 'especially in our country' and the awkward phrasing in 'take a drastic action against the concerned persons.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly to improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
