Student answer (Band 6.0)
Using clear water is one of the basic human rights. It is argued that government should provide clean water to every home free of charge. I strongly believe with the statement because it will lower financial stress of population and decrease risk of diseases caused by unhealthy water.
Government should supply clean water to every home without payment because it will avoid extra financial stress on population. People struggling with financial hardships will no more worry about paying for water supply. As a result, people will focus more on other basic needs like paying electricity bill or fuel bills.
Another major reason is that it will lower the risks caused by dirty and unhealthy water. Lower-class families, who cannot afford water expenses, will definitely use unhealthy water which can cause many diseases. So, by having free clean water supply, people will use clean water instead of unhealthy water which will, consequently, avoid the risk of diseases such as kidney stones and many others.
However, having water free of any charges, people may waste water. For example, people may let the water tape opened for hours because they don't have to worry about the payment. As a result, a large amount of water can be wasted. This problem can be solved by providing limited amount of water to every home and after exceeding the limit, everyone must be paid for extra water usage.
In conclusion, government should provide limited clean water to every home because it will help people financially and will lower the risks related to human health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for your stance, such as financial relief and health benefits, and acknowledged a counter-argument regarding water wastage. The ideas are generally well-developed, though the explanation of the counter-argument could be more nuanced. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are more specific and fully explored. For instance, instead of mentioning 'many diseases,' you could briefly explain how waterborne pathogens impact public health systems. Overall, the response is focused and directly answers the question.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As a result,' 'Another major reason,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes a bit mechanical or repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between the counter-argument paragraph and the conclusion is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall clarity of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'financial hardships,' 'waterborne diseases,' and 'water usage.' However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'let the water tape opened' (should be 'leave the tap running') and 'everyone must be paid' (should be 'everyone must pay'). To improve, focus on learning common collocations and more precise academic vocabulary. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, incorporating more sophisticated or less common lexical items would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I strongly believe with the statement' (should be 'I strongly agree with the statement'), 'financial stress of population' (missing article 'the'), and 'water tape' (should be 'tap'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to article usage, prepositional phrases, and subject-verb agreement. Attempting more varied complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, would also demonstrate greater grammatical control.
