Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the recent global situation, every human and home need a clean and filtered water. However, the supply of water is given completely free of charge because the access of clean water is a basic human right. I completely agree with the statement that water is provided free of cost in homes.

To begin with the basic human right, everybody knows that how much water is crucial in human's life and access of clean water is very rare in these days because the underground water pipes are leaked and all the dust are automatically mixed with the water therefore, the water become dirty and the pH level of water is going very high and if we drink that water then we are automatically getting sick. This is very harmful for us to drink dirty water. Therefore, we need a clean and filtered water to make our life healthier and hydrated.

Secondly, if the clean water is provided then the supply of that water is going to be free for all the humans and homes because this also the human right to get free water supplies at homes. There are certain amount of people who don't afford the prices of water supply but they also need water to survive. In addition to this ,we all need to built water filters near our areas, so that everybody can have free access to that water filter and have free clean water.

To conclude that, I completely agree with the statement that everyone wants clean water and free water supply to avoid diseases and always get hydrated.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free water. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention health concerns and affordability, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the discussion on 'underground water pipes' is a specific detail that does not fully support the broader economic or social argument for free water. To improve, you should expand on the implications of water as a human right versus the economic reality of infrastructure maintenance. The response is somewhat simplistic and would benefit from more nuanced reasoning to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'Secondly,' and 'To conclude.' However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, the transition between the health risks of dirty water and the economic argument for free supply is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'dirty,' 'sick,' and 'clean.' There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'the pH level of water is going very high' and 'don't afford the prices.' To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to public policy, infrastructure, and socio-economic issues. Expanding your range of synonyms and using more precise terminology will help you convey your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every human and home need'), article usage (e.g., 'the access of clean water'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'all the dust are automatically mixed'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and preposition usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
