Student answer (Band 6.0)

Countries' natural resources and government framework play a pivotal role in forming the economy and to enhance its growth. Many individuals contend that accessibility of clean and safe drinking water is regarded as a basic human right. Thus, all households must be provided with proper supply of clean water without any pay. However, I partially agree with this view as giving them the chance to utilise safe drinking water will mitigate the risk of waterborne diseases and a nation will maintain the essence of democracy. But, at the same time, if resources are offered for free then people might misuse or exploit it without thinking of the environment.

On one hand, the established government institutions have made certain human rights including the convivence of receiving clean water which ensures that the public should be given equal opportunities to consume the resources prevailing in the natural world. Everyone is equal before law. If laws are violated, then democracy will be harmed and cases of criticism can be observed. Furthermore, many areas are still not in reach of safe drinking water and continue to have contaminated water which leads to have bad impact on their physical health. They suffer from waterborne diseases such as cholera and dengue. If steps taken to give them access to unstained water, then it can actually improve their health conditions and allow them to remain healthy and fit. Particularly, marginalised communities face pressing problems related to unavailability and are forced to consume unsafe water. They tend to buy bottled water of good quality despite limited finance, which they cannot afford on a regular basis.

On the other hand, any item if acquired free of cost cannot create hold the real importance for a longer time. The general populace misuse natural resources by overusing it. Already, it is an alarming situation that water is getting scared day by day and because of rapid increase in population, all are not able to get an access. If nominal charges are put, then people realise the value of natural assets of the planet. and more cautious before its utilization. Exploitation is widely seen and no one is taking actions to preserve it.

To conclude, it is the combined responsibility of both citizens and higher authorities to take initiatives on micro and macro level so that the people can live sedentary and sustainable lifestyle by understanding the significance of rare resources. without feeling anxious about the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt by presenting a balanced view on whether water should be free. Your position is clear from the introduction, and you provide relevant arguments for both sides. The ideas are generally well-developed, though the argument regarding 'democracy' in the second paragraph is slightly tangential and could have been more directly linked to the economic or social necessity of water. To reach a higher band, ensure that every supporting point directly reinforces your central argument about the accessibility and pricing of water.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing and sentence flow, such as the fragment 'and more cautious before its utilization' in the third paragraph. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and each paragraph has a clear central topic, which helps maintain the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'pivotal role', 'mitigate', 'marginalised', and 'sustainable'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'convivence' (likely meaning convenience or provision) and 'without any pay' (should be 'free of charge'). Additionally, 'water is getting scared' is a misuse of the word 'scarce'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage to reach the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'leads to have bad impact' (should be 'leads to a bad impact') and 'If steps taken' (missing auxiliary verb 'are'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some sentence fragments and minor errors in article usage. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score in this category.
