IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge.
Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that water is basic human right. Some individuals believe that everyone should have equal access to water and also free of charge. I strongly agree with this view because water is available around the world and it also has significant health and practical benefits. This essay will support my view with practical examples and personal experience.
One of the main reasons why some people believe that every home has free water supply is that we have a lot of water on the earth. This is because they think that water is one of the natural resources and also we have an easy access to excessive amount of water on the earth, thereby it should be supplied free of charge. For example, if people have to pay for water, many low socio-economic families face difficulties such as clean water shortage and financial burden. As a result, many disadvantaged people of societies rely heavily on dirty water, which increases the risk of disease.
Another significant reason why water is provided freely is that it has significant benefits such as clean water usage promotes healthy lifestyle and reduces the risk of disease. In addition to that individuals also use water for washing clothes, taking a bath and especially for drinking. For instance, when people drink a lot of water on daily basis, they can maintain healthy lifestyle and it can also prevent from several health problems.
In conclusion, although water is a basic human right, it is often debated that whether it should be provided free of charge or people should be paid for it. I believe that clean water can bring several substantial benefits to human beings so it should be supplied free of charge.
