Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that clean water should be provided free of charge to every home. The writer attempts to support this position with reasons and examples, such as the anecdote about a relative developing a kidney disease from tap water and the mention of cooking rice. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times repetitive or superficial. While the main stance is clear throughout the essay, the arguments lack depth and broader societal or economic considerations that would elevate the discussion. Consequently, the performance aligns best with Band 5, as it addresses the task and presents a clear position, but the ideas remain under-developed and supported with limited reasoning and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates some organization with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, overall progression is limited, and cohesive devices are frequently mechanical or inaccurate. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Morever' and 'In conclusion' are attempted, but referencing and linking within paragraphs are often faulty, such as 'For example, one of our relative drink water directly from tap which was cause him...'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is hindered by awkward phrasing and inadequate transitions between ideas. The mechanical use of cohesive devices and lack of smooth logical flow place this response firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by severe spelling errors. Throughout the text, fundamental words are misspelled repeatedly, such as 'Humman' for human, 'precous' for precious, 'poluted' for polluted, 'chamicals' for chemicals, 'pured' for purified, 'miniral' for mineral, 'impratant' for important, 'usefull' for useful, 'pupose' for purpose, 'whc]ich wensume' for which we consume, and 'drining' for drinking. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'purifier', 'diseases', and 'necessity', the pervasive spelling and word-choice errors cause frequent strain for the reader and prevent communication from flowing smoothly. This performance corresponds to Band 4.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('water include very harmfull chamicals'), tense confusion ('which was cause him'), missing articles ('everyone right to access'), and incorrect word forms ('soak water too much'). These frequent errors often distort meaning and cause significant difficulty for the reader. Although the writer attempts complex structures, they are almost invariably faulty. Therefore, this warrants a Band 4 for grammatical range and accuracy.
