Student answer (Band 6.5)
Availability of clean water is the basic human right that should be provided to every household.
As per international human right councils basic human rights such as food, shelter and clean water is the necessity of every person and it is the responsibility of the state to provide those rights to its citizens. However, access to drinkable clean water is still a luxury to many individuals.
I believe every home should be equipped with free of cost clean water.
Although half of the world is covered with water making it almost 70% but still not all the people on the planet have access to it for daily use. After industrialization the factories polluted a lot of water and that make the clean water scarce, leaving humans to seek out the natural resource which has always been free since the origin of mankind. Then big companies set up their business of purifying water and selling it back to the people at high cost. This issue is considered very problematic in big cities. For example, in Rawalpindi no clean water resource is available so people have to buy expensive water tankers for themselves. Although government had setup some filtration plants but those are not enough for an overpopulated area. It is the duty of government to provide clean water to people through pipelines as it is provided in the capital city Islamabad but that is not happening so residents are forced to pay heavy price for water.
Water scarcity can be a major issue in near future as AI is becoming more advanced and we need a lot of water to cool down the data centers. If serious measures are not taken soon we will face a serious international water crisis.
In conclusion, I would argue that accessibility of clean water is basic necessity of every individuals and governments should ensure that it is provided equally and fairly to everyone in a state.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt directly, presenting a clear position that clean water is a basic human right and should be provided free of charge. The writer covers various aspects of the issue, including the historical context of industrialization, the role of private corporations, and local examples such as Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant personal knowledge, although the mention of AI cooling data centers in the penultimate paragraph feels somewhat abrupt and tangential to the main household water supply argument. Overall, the task is addressed adequately and a clear stance is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6.5 to 7.0 profile well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays a logical overall progression, moving from the initial premise to arguments regarding industrialization, corporate involvement, local examples, and a concluding stance. Paragraphing is used to separate main ideas, though the body paragraphs are quite dense and could be broken down further to improve readability. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'However', 'Although', and 'In conclusion', but referencing and transitions between sentences can occasionally feel mechanical or slightly disjointed, such as the abrupt shift to AI data centers. Overall, the organization is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'industrialization', 'scarce', 'overpopulated', and 'accessibility'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as writing 'is the basic human right' instead of 'is a basic human right', 'make the clean water scarce' (tense agreement and phrasing), and 'pay heavy price' instead of 'pay a heavy price'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with mixed success, meaning the lexical range sits comfortably at the competent Band 6 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, featuring clauses introduced by 'Although', 'As per', and relative pronouns. However, there are recurrent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('basic human rights such as food, shelter and clean water is the necessity') and missing articles ('in Rawalpindi no clean water resource is available', 'government had setup'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but minor slips occur. While these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the essay from reaching the higher band thresholds.
