Student answer (Band 5.5)
Humans have many rights. Among them is to have access to clean water. I agree that every house should be provided with a water supply that is free of cost.
Firstly, the government should utilize the water resources of the country properly and establish projects that will help to take the water to people houses. They should also conduct programs which will help to increase public awareness on the harmful causes of drinking polluted water. Polluted water should also be treated and filtered to make it usable. The government should fund projects which are helping to provide useful water to the public.
One of the main reason of water pollution are large industries which emit harmful gases and chemicals as waste that make the water polluted. So they should filter and treat their waste properly before dumping it in the environment. Individuals should also take proper care of their waste and should not throw those types of garbage which will cause pollution. If the government provides its citizen with free clean water supply then all the citizens can have clean water which will prevent the citizens from getting ill from various harmful water diseases such as diarrhoea, dysentry, typhoid and so on. It will also help those individuals whose financial status is weak and unstable.
In conclusion, there are many advantages of giving free water supply to the citizen. So the government should provide their citizen with clean water supply that is free of cost. It will also help to reduce the number of ill patients who are suffering from various kinds of water-borne diseases.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that clean water should be provided free of charge to every home. The main ideas, such as government responsibility, industrial pollution control, and health benefits, are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on government funding and projects in the second paragraph echoes similar points made in the conclusion and other sections without introducing fully extended sub-arguments. Additionally, while the writer mentions the health benefits of preventing water-borne diseases like 'diarrhoea, dysentry, typhoid', the arguments could have been extended by exploring economic impacts or infrastructure challenges to reach higher bands. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed with a clear, consistent position, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct ideas, such as government actions in the second paragraph and industrial responsibilities alongside health benefits in the third. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Transitions between sentences rely heavily on basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'One of the main reason', and 'In conclusion'. Furthermore, referencing and logical progression occasionally falter; for example, the third paragraph abruptly shifts from industrial pollution to personal waste management and then to health benefits and financial status within the same block of text, making the logical flow feel disjointed. Overall, the organizational structure meets the criteria for Band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terminology such as 'water resources', 'public awareness', 'polluted water', and 'water-borne diseases'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations. For example, the phrase 'One of the main reason' contains a grammatical error in pluralisation, and expressions like 'take the water to people houses' (missing an apostrophe) and 'useful water' or 'ill patients' demonstrate limitations in word choice. Less common lexical items are attempted, but spelling and word-choice errors occur, such as the misspelling of 'dysentry' (dysentery). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message but sits firmly within the Band 6 descriptor range due to these recurring inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'If the government provides its citizen with free clean water supply then all the citizens can have clean water...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'One of the main reason', 'provide their citizen' (instead of citizens), and missing articles before singular countable nouns like 'free clean water supply'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede overall communication. The presence of both accurate complex structures and frequent basic errors supports a Band 6 score.
