Student answer (Band 5.5)

According to world health organization the right to food, shelter and education is compulsory for every individual in this world. Every individual is born free and has the right to have free access to the basic human needs.

As per my perspective I'm inclined to the fact that clean water supply must be provided free of cost. The government of a country imposes numerous types of taxes which include direct and indirect tax. The aim is to provide basic human needs including free water supply. If a citizen is already paying taxes, government should not charge him for water.

The government needs to work on various projects to store water and make the best use of it. The water from glaciers, ponds and rivers can play a pivotal role in the development of a country. On one hand it can be use to generate free electricity. On the other hand it helps in the availability of clean water.

Water being the basic necessity is crucial for the public and if it is free a citizen can play a vital role by acknowledging the fact that government is helping them. It basically develops a feeling of belonging to the state.

Keeping in mind the above arguments it is crucial in the contemporary era that everyone must have free access to water. This is not only beneficial for the public but also to the government as well. Overall it is outmost important for everyone to have access to the clean water as it avoids health issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response presents a clear position throughout the essay, arguing that clean water should be provided free of cost because citizens already pay taxes and governments should manage resources effectively. The task is addressed adequately, and ideas are supported with reasons such as state responsibility, tax allocation, and public health benefits. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or broad, particularly regarding the economic feasibility of free water projects and how electricity generation ties directly back to free residential supply. Overall, the main tenets of the prompt are covered well, earning a solid Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilized to separate distinct arguments, such as taxation in paragraph two, infrastructure in paragraph three, and psychological/health benefits in subsequent sections. However, logical progression between sentences is sometimes hindered by abrupt transitions and mechanical cohesive devices like 'On one hand' and 'On the other hand,' which are used somewhat rigidly. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between paragraphs can be disjointed at times. These features align comfortably with the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'pivotal role,' 'contemporary era,' and 'outmost important' (though the latter contains a slight slip for 'utmost'). There are some word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as missing capitalization in proper nouns ('world health organization') and minor collocation slips. Nevertheless, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the central arguments clearly without impeding the reader's understanding, fitting the criteria for a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over conditional structures ('if it is free a citizen can play...') and prepositional phrases. However, there are notable grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as missing commas in introductory clauses ('As per my perspective I'm inclined...'), an article omission ('according to world health organization'), and minor agreement issues. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur with enough frequency to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band, making Band 6 an accurate reflection of the writing.
