Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the accessibility of clean water and whether it should be provided free of charge, taking a clear stance that governments should supply free water pumps to poor areas and homes. However, the development of ideas is limited and relies on repetitive examples rather than fully articulated argumentation. The discussion touches upon desert areas, poor financial conditions, and health problems such as kidney issues, which aligns with the core requirements of the task. The writer successfully covers the main parts of the task, though the ideas remain somewhat generalised and lack extended, sophisticated support. According to the official band descriptors, this performance sits firmly within Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks proper paragraphing entirely, being written as a single, continuous block of text, which severely disrupts the overall flow and visual structure. Cohesive devices are minimal, highly repetitive, and sometimes inaccurate, with run-on sentences connected by conjunctions like 'and even' or 'so they'. There is no clear logical progression or signposting to guide the reader through the arguments from introduction to conclusion. While there is a basic chronological arrangement of thoughts—starting with the general importance of water, moving to problem areas, and ending with a recommendation—the absence of structural boundaries and effective referencing leads to a score of 4.0 under the coherence and cohesion criteria.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The lexical range is quite basic and repetitive throughout the text. The student uses simple vocabulary such as 'very important', 'clean water', and 'poor peoples', along with noticeable spelling and morphological errors like 'nessecry' instead of necessary, 'drty' instead of dirty, and 'infulencer' instead of influencer. There are also inappropriate word choices and collocations, such as 'getting fell into kidney problem' instead of developing kidney problems, and 'do a bore' instead of drill a well or bore a borehole. Because the vocabulary is limited and repeated errors occasionally impede smooth reading, this performance corresponds to a Band 4.5, rounded to 4.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical structure of the essay is heavily compromised by a complete lack of punctuation, capitalization, and sentence boundaries. The text consists of a single massive run-on sentence joined by coordinating conjunctions. There is a very limited range of grammatical structures attempted, and attempts at complex clauses are generally faulty. Frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the have no water', 'they goverment should need'), and word forms cause significant difficulty for the reader. Given the severe lack of punctuation and persistent basic grammatical inaccuracies, the grammar falls squarely into Band 4.0.
