Student answer (Band 5.5)

The significance of clean water cannot be refuted as it plays a vital role in daily lives. I strongly agree with the idea that every home should have a clean water supply which is provided for free of charge.

Water is the most basic and essential need for humans as they consume a substantial quantity of it. I strongly concede that every human must have an easy access to clean water. Moreover, clean water is extremely important for human's body for effective digestion and their liver function. I believe, the government should take some neccessary steps to pritorize citizen's health and to ensure that every person is getting adequate clean water at their homes.

For that there are following steps which can be taken by the government. For instance, The authorities should provide clean and pure water supplies to people at their homes without any charges. Also, by implanting water plants and coolers at public places can be constructive for plenties of people as well. By implying these steps, every citizen can avail hygenic water. Also, these things must be free of cost for all of the people as some are unable to afford it. These steps can benefit abundance of citizens and can be worthwhile to their health which will eventually benefit to the country.

In conclusion, By giving access to pure water for free can advantage a significant numbers of people and can generate a healthy community which will make a dominant contribution to the economy. A smart approach for this will be more fulfilling.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that clean water should be provided free of charge to every home. The main ideas, such as health benefits, digestion, and government responsibility, are introduced and supported with reasons. However, the development of ideas lacks depth and tends to be repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs where points regarding free provision and health are restated without adding substantial new arguments or specific examples from personal knowledge. The conclusion merely restates the introduction and main body points rather than adding a synthesised final thought. Therefore, the response fulfills the basic requirements of the task, earning a solid Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a clear overall progression with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'For that there are following steps' and 'By implying these steps' are awkward and unnatural. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'these things must be free of cost' where 'these things' vaguely refers back to water and its supply. While the text is coherent overall, these issues in cohesive devices and referencing place it firmly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'significance', 'substantial', 'adequate', and 'constructive'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'neccessary', 'pritorize', 'hygenic', 'implanting' (instead of implementing), and 'abundance' used incorrectly as an adjective phrase ('abundance of citizens'). There is also repetition of basic words like 'steps', 'free', and 'clean water'. These lexical errors and limitations prevent the response from achieving a higher band, making Band 6 an accurate reflection of the student's current control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with structures such as 'I strongly agree with the idea that...' and relative clauses like 'which is provided for free of charge'. However, numerous grammatical errors are present, including subject-verb agreement issues ('human's body', 'the government should... are following steps'), awkward preposition use ('provided for free of charge', 'access to clean water' vs 'an easy access to clean water'), and punctuation errors. While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency across the text keeps the score at Band 5.5.
