Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, supply of clean water has become a hotly debated issue in society. Some individuals argue that approach of clean water is a fundamental human requirement and every home should have clean water availability that is provided without any cost. I strongly agree that everyone should have a water supply which is given to them free of charge.
Clean water is basic facility for any area. It should be provide to every class of public. It is the responsibility of government to ensure this need due to its result if it is not available. Shortage of Clean water generate numerous problems although some of them are very serious problems which may suffer human health because by drinking dirty water individuals may irritate their stomach health that leads to any disease. Many diseases has caused by it which often leads to death. For instance, in pakistan, some years ago a disease spread which is named as Typhoid that is caused by using dirty water.
The availability of clean water is a right of every person. It not only saves ones health from destroying but also gives a good taste. Some people in society may be have not sufficient funds to meet their dailylife requirements but they have a right to live a healthy life and free availability of clean water gives them an opportunity of spending healthy life. Government should install filter plants of water at different places in cities for poor and needy people. For example, poor people remains save from disease that is caused by drinking dirty water and it also helps them financially by saving money that would spent on illness.
In conclusion, free availability of clean water helps society and save them from any mishaps. I firmly support the idea of free water supply.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student addresses the prompt by clearly stating their position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout the essay. The idea that water is a basic human right and that its provision prevents severe health issues is present. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the discussion on health focuses largely on 'diseases' and 'stomach health' without introducing broader socioeconomic or infrastructural perspectives. The example of typhoid in Pakistan is relevant but briefly stated. Overall, the response addresses all parts of the task with a clear position, but the support tends to be generalised, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised, although the indentation and spacing are slightly irregular. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For instance', 'Some people', and 'In conclusion', but referencing and linking can sometimes feel mechanical or repetitive ('dirty water', 'clean water'). Progression is evident from the introduction of the problem to health impacts and financial benefits, yet the flow between sentences within paragraphs can be jerky. This reflects the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'hotly debated issue', 'fundamental human requirement', and 'financial benefits'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'approach of clean water' instead of 'access to clean water', 'Clean water is basic facility', and 'poor people remains save'. Spelling mistakes like 'dailylife' also appear. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the central arguments, the lexical inaccuracies and lack of precision prevent the response from reaching a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditionals ('which may suffer human health because by drinking dirty water...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors in articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'supply of clean water' (missing article), 'Shortage of Clean water generate', and 'money that would spent'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but structural inaccuracies occasionally impede readability. The presence of these frequent non-systematic errors places the grammar firmly at Band 5.5.
