Student answer (Band 6.0)

Easy availability of filter water is a essential right of every human. That’s why each home should have water supply that is provided free of cost. I fully agree with the given statement because it makes life convenient and it improves hygiene.

To begin with, providing water supply to everyone with free of charge is the best way to protect public health. The primary reason behind this is that, low-income families may struggle with the paying water bills, but if government should provide this type of scheme they can afford and it helps them to stay healthy. Secondly, if water supply is free of charge public is less likely to consume contaminated water when clean water is without charge. As a result, free water makes regular bathing, handwashing and cleaning easily, which helps to enhance overall well-being and mitigate disease caused by unsafe water. For instance, It has been proven in Korea, after covid-19 Korean government provided water supply free of charge for everyone and make sure all the homes got proper water supply.

Moving further, free water is very essential especially during drought, tsunami, disaster and other crises. Reliable clean water make life very convenient and comfortable, so families can spend their limited income on food, education and housing instead of water. As a result, a healthier workforce can contribute more effectively to the economy. However, there is a also minus side of this which cannot be neglected. It require lots of budget If government provide this type of scheme, they can not spent money on other sectors.

To conclude, getting regular bathing, makes pupils life convenient are the agree side of this, whereas it require lots of budget is the disagree side of this statement. I firmly agree with the given statement as it reduces inequality.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing with the statement and providing supporting reasons, such as public health improvements and crisis management. The writer also acknowledges a counter-argument regarding budget constraints. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly in the conclusion where points are restated simplistically. The example given regarding Korea is slightly vague and lacks precise elaboration. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, placing the response solidly in Band 6 territory where all parts are addressed, but some ideas remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing separating the introduction, body points, counter-argument, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'To conclude' are used to sequence ideas, though referencing and transitions can be a bit mechanical at times, such as 'Moving further'. Paragraph progression is logical, moving from health benefits to wider economic and crisis benefits, followed by the counter-argument. However, the management of cohesive relationships occasionally feels stiff, aligning the response with Band 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common lexical items like 'contaminated water', 'mitigate disease', and 'workforce'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'filter water' instead of 'filtered water', 'with free of charge' instead of 'free of charge', and 'getting regular bathing'. There are also minor spelling and phrasing slips. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures and relative clauses (e.g., 'if government should provide this type of scheme they can afford'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('It require lots of budget', 'It have been proven'), missing articles ('the paying water bills'), and awkward phrasing ('makes pupils life convenient'). While these errors are noticeable and require the reader to occasionally pause, they do not completely impede communication. This balanced mix of complexity and frequent errors reflects Band 5.5 to 6.0, settling safely at a Band 6.
