Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued that access to clean water is a necessary need of human right. Therefore every home should have a word supply that is provided by government fee of charges because it is basic need for human.
The first reason is health and survival. A human can live for weeks without food, but only 3-4 days without water. If water is dirty, people get deadly diseases like diarrhea and typhoid.
For example, in many villages in tharparkar sindh, children get sick every year because they drink unclean water from open ponds. This show clean water is not a luxury, but a condition for staying alive, just like a air.
The second reason is dignity and equality. Without free water at home, poor families suffer the most.
For example In big cities like karachi, poor people in kachi abadis have to buy water from private tankers for [redacted phone] rupees, while rich area like DHA get piped water. Women and girl also have to walk kilometers everyday to bring water, so they can not go school and work. If water is not free and available at home, it create injustice and take away human dignity.
On the other hand some people argued that water should not be free because people will waste it.
In conclusion, I believe that access to clean water is a basic human right because health and survival without water human can not live, and provide clean water is a dignity and equality without water families suffer the most.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly taking a stance in favour of free clean water for every home, supported by relevant main ideas concerning health, survival, and social equality. The student extends their ideas with specific examples, such as the situation in Tharparkar Sindh and Karachi, which adds practical context to the arguments. However, the position is somewhat weakened by the extremely brief counter-argument section, which is introduced as 'On the other hand some people argued that water should not be free because people will waste it' without any further rebuttal or development. Furthermore, the conclusion is overly repetitive and does not effectively synthesise the arguments. Overall, the response meets the requirements of Band 6 by addressing all parts of the task with relevant, though occasionally under-developed, ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is structured with discernible paragraphs that attempt to separate distinct themes, such as health and social dignity. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt transitions and poor paragraphing choices, such as the single-sentence paragraph addressing the counter-argument. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes repetitive or awkwardly applied. For instance, transitional phrases like 'The first reason is' and 'The second reason is' provide a basic structural framework, but referencing and linking across sentences are frequently faulty. Additionally, the conclusion fails to tie the paragraphs together cohesively, resulting in a run-on sentence that hinders the flow of the text. Overall, these cohesion and organisation issues place the response firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for communicating basic ideas, but it features noticeable limitations and errors in word choice and spelling. Examples from the text include 'word supply' instead of water supply, 'fee of charges' instead of free of charge, and 'tharparkar sindh' and 'karachi' which show issues with proper capitalization. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'survival', 'dignity', and 'injustice', but inaccuracies in collocation and frequent slip-ups—such as 'just like a air'—diminish the precision of the writing. While communication is not severely impeded and the reader can generally follow the argument, the lexical range is constrained and recurrent mistakes prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('just like a air', 'so they can not go school'), incorrect prepositions, and subject-verb agreement issues ('This show clean water', 'it create injustice'). Punctuation is also problematic, particularly in the overly long and convoluted final sentence of the conclusion. Although the writer attempts complex structures, these are often faulty and require the reader to occasionally pause or re-read to grasp the intended meaning. Because errors occur frequently and cause some difficulty, the response aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors.
