Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by presenting a clear position agreeing that clean water should be provided free of charge, supporting it with arguments related to health benefits and government duties. However, the task achievement is negatively impacted by the length requirement not being met, as the response falls short of the 250-word minimum by 3 words (containing 247 words). Furthermore, while ideas are introduced, they tend to be somewhat generalized and under-developed, aligning best with a Band 5 or 6 profile. The inclusion of personal claims and slightly informal assertions keeps the development limited, but it does cover the main parts of the prompt adequately enough to warrant a Band 5.5 overall for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief concluding paragraph. Logical progression is attempted, but cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'As far as clean water is concerd' and 'At a last but not a least' show awkward phrasing and mechanical cohesion. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as 'they have some basic needs to survive them'. Paragraphing is present, but overall the arrangement suffers from run-on structures and weak cohesive links, placing it firmly in the Band 5 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and displays noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of spelling and lexical inaccuracies include 'selter' for shelter, 'concerd' for concerned, 'disease' instead of diseases, and 'entitle' instead of entitled. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'nutrition' and 'authorities', but basic errors and repetition of phrases like 'clean water' and 'free of cost' restrict the range. The control of collocations and word formation is weak, pointing towards a Band 5.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The humans are the one', 'body need', 'Every person are entitle', 'government take'), missing articles ('water play an important factor'), and incorrect prepositions. Punctuation and spacing issues are also prevalent throughout the text (e.g., missing spaces after commas). While meaning can mostly be deciphered, the high frequency of structural and mechanical errors means the majority of sentences are not error-free, reflecting a Band 5.0 performance.
