Student answer (Band 6.0)
While opinions differ regarding whether access to clean water is a basic human right, and every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge, I largely believe that it improves individual health and their quality of life.
One of the major significance of having access to clean water free of charge is that it improves peoples' health. Essentially, when individuals are given water without paying for it, all of them will have equal access irrespective of their financial abilty. Since the water is save, they may not develop illnesses related to water contamination which can improve their health. For instance, if people take safe water regularly, they may ultimately improve their health leading to a better quality of life and contribute to the long-term development of society.
Furthermore, making access to clean water a basic human right and ensuring that each homestead is given safe water free of charge may improve the quality of life of due to the fact that people will not be paying for the resource. Therefore people may enjoy higher incomes and greater financial security because there will be more disporsable income. Consider a situation where individuals are not paying for water, most of them will have more disporsable income, which can ultimately bring about significant positive changes benefiting both individuals and society in the long run.
To conclude, I completely agree with the idea of giving every home a water supply that is provided free of charge because it improves individual health and their quality of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that free access to clean water improves health and quality of life. The ideas are relevant and generally supported with explanations regarding financial security and disease prevention. However, there is a tendency to repeat the core idea—that free water improves health and quality of life—across both body paragraphs without introducing distinct sub-topics such as economic feasibility or environmental concerns. While the position is clear throughout, the development remains somewhat repetitive, placing the response firmly at Band 6.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is coherent overall with a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct supporting points. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'One of the major significance', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or contain structural awkwardness, as seen in 'quality of life of due to the fact that'. Moreover, referencing pronouns like 'their' occasionally lack absolute clarity in distinguishing between individuals and society. Overall, the logical progression is apparent, matching Band 6 descriptors well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting less common items such as 'contamination', 'disposable income', and 'financial security'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('abilty', 'save', 'disporsable') and collocation slips, such as 'One of the major significance' instead of 'significances' or 'significant aspects'. While these errors do not impede communication and the writer demonstrates a workable lexicon, the frequency of lexical inaccuracies prevents the score from reaching Band 7.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures ('if people take safe water regularly...') and relative clauses. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('One of the major significance of having... is that') and unnecessary word inclusions ('quality of life of due to the fact that'). Punctuation and comma splices also occur occasionally, such as missing commas after introductory phrases. Because these errors persist alongside a reasonable mix of structures without blocking comprehension, a Band 6 is appropriate.
