Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear, albeit simply expressed, position against the statement that all home water supply should be provided free of charge. The writer attempts to develop ideas regarding water conservation, economic benefits, and government intervention. However, the development is limited and repetitive, with several ideas remaining under-developed and circular, such as the repeated mention of people wasting water by washing their cars. Additionally, there are minor tangents regarding rainwater harvesting that are not fully tied back to the core argument about whether water should be free. This level of task fulfilment aligns best with Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some organisational structure with rudimentary paragraphing, attempting an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical links between ideas are frequently faulty or mechanical. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'To initiate with' and 'Another reason to concur is'. Referencing is also weak at times, as seen in vague pronoun use like 'they' and 'it'. Paragraph transitions do not consistently guide the reader smoothly through the argument, earning this criterion a Band 5 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on everyday words like 'water', 'people', 'money', and 'house'. There are noticeable spelling errors throughout the response, such as 'eassy', 'wtaer', 'waterr', 'iff', 'peoles', and 'enterily', alongside grammatical word-choice errors like 'important of waters' instead of 'importance of water'. While the range is minimally adequate to convey basic concepts, the frequency of errors and the lack of sophisticated or less common lexical items restrict the score to a Band 4.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many complex attempts are grammatically faulty, such as 'i do not entirely accept this, and i will explain why is this eassy' and 'due to shortage of water but they face alot of problems of water in during summer occasion'. Punctuation and capitalization are notably poor throughout the text, including lowercase 'i' pronouns and misplaced spaces before punctuation marks. Frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and preposition usage cause noticeable difficulty for the reader, placing this performance at Band 4.
