IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge.

Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The government should provide a free water supply to every home because it is a basic human right. I completely agree with this point, as every human being needs clean water to survive, and the taxes every citizen pays also make them eligible to access clean water.

A human body functions properly only if given fresh and clean water. Many scientists even believe that the chlorine tablets that the government uses to purify the water are also not very safe if used for a longer period of time. Also, it is expensive for the public to buy mineral water daily because the water consumption of an average human being is 2 liters per day. If we take an example of a family consisting of 4 members, which includes 2 parents and 2 kids, it would cost them so much money if they bought water bottles from outside.

Secondly, every citizen in a country pay his tax to the government for the positive developmental causes of their country. So, the state could do something in return, like providing them with pure and fresh water without contamination by any kind of chemical. Like, every house should have a supply of fresh water daily. Developed countries like the UK and the USA should take the initiative for their public so that other states could look up to them and start something like that in the near future.

In conclusion, access to clean water is so basic that everyone on this earth should have that. And facilities like clean water should be free if the states really want to see their citizens be healthy and contributing to the society.
