Student answer (Band 5.5)

People believe that clean and free water supply is basic and crucial need for live and every home should have access to this water free of cost. I strongly agree with this idea becuase clean water is the most important and significant need for the general populace. This essay will discuss the main reason for my view point.

The primary reason i agree with idea becuase clean water is neccessary and crucial for people's health. This is mainly because many diseases like jaundice, yellow fever, malaria and diarrea spread because of unhygenic water.Furthermore in remote areas there is no formal dispensors or water distillation plants or machines which can filter water for locals so people from these reas have to compromise on polluted tap water which is detrimental for health. For example In Pakistan over 7 percent of children procure diarrea and jaundice every year because of intake of dirty water.

Another compelling reason is that water is basic survival need of the individuals. In any country, entire population is not able to buy expensive mineral water from market like in underserved communities people live hand to mouth so it is difficult for them to buy expensive bottled water. Some Villages where there is no availability of fresh water bodies or wells they have to buy expensive water gallons for use in cooking and drinking purposes. For example in balochistan , people either have to buy water from markets or they fetch from far away water bodies which is difficult to transport to homes.

In conclusion, I belive that water is a resource human being cannot exist without and polluted or Expensive water cause difficulty for population of any state so clean supply of water is significant and authorities should supply clean and free water to every home.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt directly, presenting a clear position that the student strongly agrees with free water supply for every home. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the mention of Pakistan and Balochistan. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise and some supporting points could be further developed with deeper analysis rather than just listing examples. For instance, the discussion on health issues like jaundice and malaria touches upon the core argument well, but the link back to economic feasibility could be stronger. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed with a clear stance throughout, aligning well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 descriptors. Because the ideas are relevant and supported, a band score of 6.5 is awarded.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introductory paragraph, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate main ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, phrases like 'The primary reason i agree with idea becuase' and 'Another compelling reason is that' are repetitive and formulaic. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and logical progression between sentences could be smoother. Furthermore, missing articles and punctuation glitches disrupt the flow. These features place the response firmly in Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'populace', 'detrimental', 'dispensors', and 'underserved communities'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('becuase', 'neccessary', 'diarrea', 'unhygenic', 'belive') and word-choice inaccuracies ('procure diarrea', 'basic survival need of the individuals'). While these lexical errors and spelling mistakes do not impede overall communication, they prevent the text from reaching a higher band. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the intended meaning, matching the Band 6 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses (e.g., 'machines which can filter water for locals so people from these reas have to compromise on polluted tap water'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly missing articles ('in balochistan', 'for use in cooking'), incorrect prepositions, and persistent spelling and punctuation slips. While complex structures are attempted, they are often prone to errors. Communication is not seriously impeded, but the density of grammatical slips keeps the score at a Band 5.5.
