Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether clean water should be provided free of charge by the government, taking a clear position of agreement. The ideas are relevant and touch upon population growth, groundwater depletion, and government responsibility. However, the development of these ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive, lacking specific examples or deep extension. For instance, the mention of farmers and normal people being affected is not fully elaborated with concrete scenarios. This places the response comfortably at Band 5.0, as it addresses the task and presents a clear position, but the ideas remain under-developed and limited in scope.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into four paragraphs, showing an attempt at a conventional essay structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is disjointed. Cohesive devices are frequently misused, repetitive, or absent, as seen in phrases like 'In the current, time the ground water level decreased by evey year, because the cannot take this issue seriously'. Paragraphing is present, but logical transitions between sentences and ideas are often faulty, creating a mechanical flow that sometimes impedes the reader's understanding. Referencing and pronoun use are also unclear in places, reflecting the descriptors for Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing simple words like 'government', 'water', and 'people' ('peoples', 'every home'). There are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'drinkable water' instead of 'drinking water', and awkward phrasing like 'the ground water level decreased by evey year'. While the range of vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, the frequent word-choice errors and lack of less common items restrict the score to Band 4.5 or 5.0. Given that communication is maintained despite the errors, a band score of 5.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, but the grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in basic sentence structure, verb forms, and articles, such as 'The right of people is have access', 'They should be have this right', and 'A goverment should be taken this problem'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also handled poorly, with sentence fragments like 'If the precautions cannot be taken in now days. It will be affected the badly in future.' These persistent and frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and align closely with the Band 4.0 or 5.0 descriptors, specifically fitting the 4.5 boundary which rounds to 5.0 in practice, though 4.5 is not a standard IELTS score. A score of 4.0 reflects the high frequency of intrusive grammatical errors.
