Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The candidate addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that clean water is a basic human right and should be provided free of charge. Ideas are presented, such as health implications related to kidney stones and the needs of infants. However, the development of these ideas is frequently hindered by lack of clarity, repetition, and a tendency to wander into minor medical details rather than fully exploring the broader socio-economic or governance arguments. For instance, the discussion of kidney stones is repetitive and imprecise. While all parts of the task are touched upon, the overall depth of support places this response securely at Band 5.0, where ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some structural organisation, including an introductory paragraph, body paragraphs marked by ordinal transition markers such as 'Secondly' and 'Thirdly', and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and abrupt transitions. Paragraphing is attempted, but individual paragraphs lack internal unity and logical flow; for example, the second paragraph mixes general rights with specific kidney medical claims in a jumbled fashion. Cohesive devices are sometimes used incorrectly or mechanically, and referencing pronouns like 'its' and 'this' are occasionally ambiguous. These issues prevent the writing from achieving a higher coherence rating, aligning best with Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent word choice and spelling errors that strain the reader's comprehension. Examples of lexical inaccuracies include 'chagres' instead of charges, 'fundatmental rights' instead of fundamental rights, 'assists' instead of assets, and 'purefied' instead of purified. Phrases like 'harsh diseases like organs kidney' demonstrate a lack of collocation control. While the candidate attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'globalization', 'unpolluted', and 'aforementioned', the high frequency of inaccurate word formation and spelling places this response firmly at a Band 4.5, which rounds to 5.0 based on available half-band increments.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response features a limited range of grammatical structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. Examples include 'many people are believed that Access to clean water is a fundamental rights', 'every homes access to a clean water supply is its basic rights, first we understand', and 'if we consume unpolluted water for a long period of life its diverse effect on our health, may lead a harsh diseases'. These frequent grammatical errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and restrict the essay to a Band 5.0 for this criterion.
