Student answer (Band 5.5)

The availability of clean water to every human being is a basic right, that is why in the every house there should be free water supply. I strongly agree with this view, as everyone should get equal benefit from the water, whether its rich or poor.

To begin with, the access of fresh water to every household free of cost is definitely their righ. Water is a natural resource and we human cannot take it in our custody, because no creature can live without water including humans. We need water in our home for almost every activity, whether in kitchens, washrooms or bedrooms almost everywhere and if it is not available freely, so it will cause issues. For instance, if someone needs water for washing dishes or making foods, or even for taking shower and for that going to market or somewhere else, where people have to buy water. It can waste the time and also difficult in most situations.

On the other, the access of fresh water to every household free of cost provide an equality. It can cut the obstacle of rich or poor. The water is an equal need for the wealthy people as well as for the poors. For example, individuals who can afford to buy water, they could be simply go and bought the water to fullfil their needs. Whereas, the ones who cannot afford to buy water with money, so they will then just sit and cry for one of their basic needs. This will be totally unfair.

In conclusion, the supply of water to everyone is a basic need and their should be no charges or taxes on this natural resource. This gives everyone their basic right equal and it has beneficial for an individual as well as for a society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear and developed position on whether clean water should be provided free of charge to every home. The writer introduces relevant arguments regarding human rights, health needs, and equality between the rich and poor. Ideas are extended throughout the body paragraphs, such as the example contrasting how wealthy individuals can easily purchase water while disadvantaged citizens struggle. However, the reasoning occasionally relies on simplistic generalisations and slightly repetitive explanations, placing the response solidly in the band 6 territory. To reach a higher band, the development could incorporate more sophisticated economic or social arguments rather than relying purely on basic emotional appeals.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion appropriately. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To begin with', 'For instance', 'On the other', and 'In conclusion'. However, some cohesive links are faulty or unnatural, as seen in 'On the other,' which misses the word 'hand', and 'their should be no charges', where referencing and punctuation show minor mechanical errors. The logical progression is sometimes hindered by slightly disjointed sentence structures, meaning the overall organizational flow lacks the flexibility required for a band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'natural resource', 'equality', and 'disadvantaged' contexts implicitly understood though not always stated. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the essay, including 'in the every house', 'fresh water... righ', 'making foods', and 'taking shower'. Spelling and morphological inaccuracies are also present, such as 'poors' instead of 'the poor' and 'their should be' instead of 'there should be'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as 'I strongly agree with this view, as everyone should get equal benefit...' and conditional-like or relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. Frequent errors include missing articles ('in the every house', 'for taking shower'), incorrect prepositions, and subject-verb agreement issues ('this will then just sit', 'water... they could be simply go'). Punctuation is generally functional, but structural errors occur frequently enough to cause occasional difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar with the band 5 descriptors.
