Student answer (Band 6.0)

Water is an essential part of our daily life as our lives heavily depend on it. It is a basic human right that everyone should have access to clean water. People believe that free water supply should be provided to every home. I strongly agree with this idea because many people around the globe have not proper access to safe drinking water so this unavailability of pure water causes various diseases to humans. The inhabitants living the areas where they have no access to clean water have to face many difficult challenges in order to succeed in their life.

The main reason why I agree that every home should have a clean water supply is that shortage of drinkable water is the main reason behind the diseases that the people have in these remote areas . For example, if a place lacks clean drinkable water then the inhabitants living their will have no other choice but to use the unclean water that carries various bacteria and diseases. This results in masses getting severe diseases and infections that can be harmful for an individual's life such as; malaria and high fever.

Another reason is that, lack of clean water leads to the difficulties faced by people who do not have the supply for clean water. For instance, mostly children living in the areas with no plenty water fail to advance in their lives as they get busy tackling the problems that are not even their responsiblities rather they are their basic rights. Therefore, most children who are deprived from their basic need of having clean water end up unsuccessful despite having so much potential.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that every home should be provided a free clean water supply because inaccessibility of drinkable water can be the root cause for different deadly diseases and the people suffer from various hard challenges which leads to the individuals not being successful.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly taking a strong position in agreement with the statement that clean water should be provided free of charge to every home. The introduction outlines the main thesis, and two distinct body paragraphs provide supporting arguments, focusing on health consequences like waterborne diseases and the socio-educational impacts on children. However, the ideas tend to be somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the general emphasis on 'diseases' and 'challenges' without deeply extending specific examples. For instance, mentioning malaria as a waterborne disease is biologically inaccurate, which weakens the support. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed, earning a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'The main reason why', 'Another reason is that', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion can be somewhat mechanical or repetitive, and sentences within paragraphs occasionally lack smooth transitions. For example, 'The inhabitants living the areas' contains a missing preposition, and the flow between clauses is sometimes hindered by clunky phrasing. Nevertheless, the progression of ideas is logical throughout, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'essential part', 'inaccessibility', and 'waterborne diseases' (implied). However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'have not proper access' instead of 'do not have proper access', 'living the areas' instead of 'living in the areas', and 'no plenty water' instead of 'insufficient water'. Spelling and word formation are generally fine, but the repetitive use of simple vocabulary and inaccurate collocations keep the lexical resource at a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses ('people who do not have the supply') and conditional-style constructions ('if a place lacks clean...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings that interrupt the flow. Examples include missing prepositions ('living the areas'), incorrect auxiliary verb usage ('have not proper access'), and awkward pluralisation ('responsiblities'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but misuse of semicolons ('such as; malaria') is present. Because errors occur frequently but do not impede overall communication, the grammar performance aligns with Band 5.5.
