Student answer (Band 5.5)

Water is considered as the most basic necessity and access to clean water is a basic human right.I personally agree that every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge.

Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence is booming a lot and due to that many data centres are getting established in different parts of the countries due to which access to clean water has become a big question as AI is consuming tons of water.Water is getting used for many different things on daily basis like for drinking, in cooking and it is very much important to have water supply on free basis

People are already paying taxes to the government so in return they do expect to have clean water supply.People might have to go through some big trouble such as water bone diseases if they do not get access to clean water.Getting free supply of water is much needed for those people too those who are struggling financially so they can atleast have a access to clean water. In fact its responsibility of government to ensure on things such cleanliness, usage and supply of water and even citizens are equally responsible to keep water clean and have the usage of it in proper way.

So we concluded that due to significant use of AI, increase in water population and for those who might be struggling financially, it is very much important to have a access to clean water and therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge without paying any additional taxes to the government.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly taking a stand on whether clean water should be provided free of charge. The student attempts to support this position with several arguments, such as the burden of taxes, the threat of water-borne diseases, financial struggles of vulnerable groups, and a somewhat unexpected reference to AI data centres consuming water. However, these ideas are largely under-developed and tend to over-generalise without sufficient concrete elaboration. For instance, the link between AI expansion and residential water supply is introduced abruptly and lacks clear logical connection to the central thesis. While all parts of the task are addressed, the support remains somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. Therefore, the response aligns best with a Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though the body paragraphs are quite dense and group multiple disparate ideas together, such as taxes, diseases, and AI in a single block of text. Cohesive devices are used, but they are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'so', 'and', and 'because'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the concluding summary which abruptly reintroduces points like 'water population' (likely meaning water pollution) without adequate prior framing. Overall logical progression is disrupted by sudden shifts in topics between sentences, justifying a Band 5.5 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, touching upon relevant themes like 'basic necessity', 'financially struggling', and 'responsibility of government'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations that detract from precision. Examples include 'water supply on free basis' instead of 'free water supply', 'water bone diseases' instead of 'water-borne diseases', and 'water population' instead of 'water pollution'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the core message, these recurring word-choice and spelling slips limit the score to Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors and punctuation flaws. There are missing articles ('have a access', 'its responsibility'), run-on sentences, and faulty subordination, such as in the sentence 'Getting free supply of water is much needed for those people too those who are struggling financially'. Punctuation is also weak, particularly with missing spaces after periods and commas. Although communication is not severely impeded and the reader can follow the main points, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies places this criterion firmly at Band 5.0.
