Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today's rapidly changing world, this issue has become a matter of considerable debate. Some people believe that access to clean water is a basic human right. Others argue that.

Furthermore, there are several reason for this. First of all, clean and pure water which was good for health is difficult to access for normal public. Nowadays, water is the main cause of every diseas. Moreover, people drink water and use in cooking. For instance, one of my friends who live in small village. In addition, he was not well aware of clean water. He and his family drink water which was not filtered and they also use in cooking. They cannot access to pure water because the rich mans consider water to a big bussiness. Next, my friend and his family face many obstacles. This example is not only for my friend and his family this is for all village people.

However, i completely agree with the statement. In my opinion, those people who know the importance of water they takes contract from government at high cost and then they sell water to local public. Those people earn a healthy amount but people who could not afford to purchase clean and pure water by money they survived very badly in the society.

To conclude, i believe that this issue has both positive and negative aspects; however, this is the responsibility of government that every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. At last, if every home every person is able to access clean water i believe that they live good and healthy life because water is the main thing for living no one can survive without water.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by expressing complete agreement with the statement that every home should have a free water supply. However, the development of ideas is limited and disjointed. The introduction is incomplete, cutting off abruptly with 'Others argue that.' Furthermore, the body paragraphs rely on a vague personal anecdote about a friend in a small village rather than substantive supporting arguments or well-structured examples. While a clear position is stated, the ideas are under-developed and lack the extension required for higher band scores. The conclusion attempts to summarise the writer's stance, but it contains contradictions, such as stating the issue has both positive and negative aspects despite previously stating a clear agreement. Consequently, the response aligns best with a Band 5 descriptor for Task Achievement due to its limited and partially developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

Coherence and cohesion are significantly impacted by faulty paragraphing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. The introduction is broken into an incomplete fragment, and the overall progression of ideas is difficult to follow. The student uses basic transition markers such as 'Furthermore', 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'In addition', but they are often overused or awkwardly placed, creating a repetitive structure. Paragraphing is haphazard, with major shifts in focus occurring without clear logical bridges. For instance, the transition into the writer's personal agreement in the third paragraph feels jarring and disrupts the flow of the argument. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen with ambiguous pronouns and disjointed sentence connections. These issues place the response firmly in the Band 5 category for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited, basic vocabulary that is minimally adequate for the task. Throughout the response, there is frequent repetition of simple words such as 'water', 'clean', 'people', and 'family'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary often result in inaccurate word choices and spelling errors, such as 'diseas' instead of 'disease', 'mans' instead of 'men', 'bussiness' instead of 'business', and 'survived very badly'. Collocations are frequently unnatural, for example, 'takes contract from government at high cost'. While the writer manages to communicate basic points, the numerous lexical inaccuracies and restricted vocabulary range prevent the response from achieving a higher score, matching the descriptors for Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range is restricted, consisting primarily of simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies ('clean and pure water which was good', 'he was not well aware'), missing articles, and incorrect prepositions ('access to pure water because the rich mans consider water to a big bussiness'). Furthermore, punctuation errors are evident, such as lowercase starting letters for 'i' and fragmented sentences. While some basic sentences are formed correctly, the high frequency of errors across both simple and complex structures causes occasional difficulty for the reader, aligning the grammar performance with Band 5.
