Student answer (Band 5.5)
There is an ongoing debate about access to clean water. Every human has the right to use clean water, so the government should provide a water supply to every household free of charge. I strongly agree with this view because providing clean water can protect people from various health problems, and availability of clean water is essential for human survival.
First and foremost, the ability to obtain clean water can protect people from several health issues. Studies shows that , filthy water is the cause of most of the health problems. Population from those countries, who do not have access to clean water, can face more diseases than countries with clean water. Water that is not clean can cause many stomach issues as well as weaken the immune system of individuals, especially children. Due to these reasons, many students may not be able to pay attention to their studies which can also make the country to deal with many circumstances. For example, children who regularly suffer from waterbrone diseases may miss school frequently, which can negatively affect their academic performances.
In addition, humans cannot survive without water. It is a basic need for them. It is a duty of local authorities to think about the well-being of their people and they can take these steps by providing the basic needs to them such as clean water. It should be provided to every household free of charge. It helps to make people more stronger emotionally and mentally and also helps them to trust their government. For instance, If government takes care of the needs of people, they may be able to trust them more . It somehow helps in the development of the country.
In conclusion, it is argued that it is the right of every human to use clean water. In my opinion, clean water should be provided to every household free of charge because it is an essential for human survival and helps to prevent various health problems

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-defined position supporting the idea that clean water should be provided free of charge. The main ideas are relevant and supported with explanations regarding health issues and basic human survival, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6 or 7. However, the ideas lack deep extension and tend to be slightly repetitive in their development, particularly in the conclusion and body paragraphs. For instance, the argument about health issues is introduced well with examples of stomach problems and children missing school, but it remains somewhat generalized. Overall, the response meets the criteria for Band 6.5, leaning towards Band 7 for maintaining a clear position throughout, but ultimately fits best at Band 6 due to the under-development of some supporting points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct reason (health and survival). Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'First and foremost' and 'In addition', though some referencing and transitions are a bit mechanical. For example, the sentence 'Population from those countries, who do not have access to clean water, can face more diseases than countries with clean water' lacks smooth integration with the surrounding text. There are also occasional awkward transitional links. Nevertheless, the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, making this a solid performance for Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'well-being', 'immune system', and 'development of the country'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'waterbrone' (misspelling of waterborne), 'more stronger' (redundant comparative), and 'make the country to deal with many circumstances'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary, errors in word formation and collocation are present. Despite these shortcomings, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly without impeding communication, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structures. Examples of complex clauses include 'Studies shows that, filthy water is the cause of most of the health problems' and 'children who regularly suffer from waterbrone diseases may miss school frequently'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Studies shows'), unnecessary comma placement before a clause, and minor preposition errors. Complex sentence attempts occasionally contain faults, yet communication is rarely impeded. These features reflect the characteristics of Band 6 grammar.
