Access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge.

Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Clean drinkable water is one of the basic humans rights that no one should need to fight or pay for. Every home should have a supply of clean water that is free of charge. I stand by this for several reasons.

It is understandable that a supply of water in every home could cost a handsome amount to the government. In cities with large population, the construction of pipes and the supply of clean water could take up a high percentage of the monthly budget.

Admittedly, there is also a potential risk of high water wastage. Considering the resources of our planet, water wastage is already one of the major issues. Even if awareness is spread and rules are made, a strict eye cannot be kept in this regard. For instance, in a home with high water usage, it cannot be told if clean water is used for drinking or cooking purposes or the water is wasted on washing dishes or doing laundary.

However, clean water remains a basic human necessity, especially in terms of health. A human body is made of 70% water. Intake of contaminated water can result in widespread diseases or potential pandemics in the country. Applying charges to clean water supply could lead to underpriviliged population avoiding safe drinkable water and choosing tap water which could hold traces of different elements like lead, which are not safe for humans. For example, in a small village named Dhano in Pakistan, people were caught by a disease called H Pylori, which continued for generations and a genetic mutation was observed.

Considering children and elderly, their immune systems are weaker than the rest. Exposure to water related diseases can result in high mortality rate and excessive hospital admissions. This would eventually cause an incline in usage of medicated drugs overall.

Moreover, the taxes paid by the people of the country are meant to be used for their betterment. Along with construction of roads, governmental service buildings, and other sites, basic necessities like access to clean water should be provided by the authorities. The tax money should be used to accommodate the residents of the country in regards to basic rights of the citizens.

In conclusion, access to clean drinkable water is a bsic human right. To avoid potential health risks and spread of diseases, every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge, budgetting from the taxes collected by the governement.
