Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response only partially addresses the task due to severe under-length. With a total word count of just 76 words, the essay falls well short of the 250-word minimum requirement. The writer does introduce a position stating that an adequate supply of clean water is a basic human right, and touches upon reasons such as drinking and sanitary needs. However, the arguments are extremely truncated and lack the necessary development, extension, and examples required for Task 2. Consequently, the task response is heavily penalised for length and lack of full development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The text demonstrates some logical progression by starting with an introductory statement, moving to reasons for water necessity, and offering an initial favoring argument. However, the response lacks paragraphing entirely, appearing as a single short block of text. Cohesive devices are minimal and basic, featuring simple conjunctions and conversational transitions like 'So the basic, in favour argument is that'. Because the text is so brief, it is difficult to judge cohesive management beyond basic sentence joining, leading to a low band score reflecting fragmented and underdeveloped organisational structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks range and sophistication. The student successfully employs terms such as 'adequate supply', 'basic necessities', and 'sanitary needs'. However, there are also instances of awkward phrasing or colloquialisms, such as 'Life simply cannot workout without water'. Spelling is generally correct, but the overall lexical footprint is very limited due to the extremely short text, preventing the demonstration of a wider or less common vocabulary range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There is a noticeable punctuation error in the opening sentence missing necessary commas, and a grammatical slip with 'thats needs to be' instead of 'that needs to be'. Another error is found in the phrasing 'Life simply cannot workout' where 'workout' is used incorrectly instead of 'work out' or function effectively. While communication is not entirely impeded in these few sentences, the range of structures is narrow and frequent control issues appear relative to the output produced.
