Student answer (Band 5.0)
Humans are born with some basic rights which are given to them from their birth and noone can ever take those rights away from them. These are called the basic human rights. Among them the most important right is the right to access clean water and that should be provided to them free of cost.
Water, a basic unit of life. All living things need water to function in their life. Our bodies made up of 70% of water and that proves the very basic point why water is needed to keep living. So, every individual needs water. Similarly, every home needs water and that water should be provided free of charge. There are millions of everyday needs that required the amundant amount of water. These basic needs includes drinking, washing, cooking, bathing and working.
However, providing water abundantly without any surcharge leads to many problem arising out of the situation. Many households use water without checking their need, which cause the loss of the water and ultimately the loss of natural resources. Moreover, lossing water now ultimately effects the future generations.
Overall, water is a basic right of human being. Every person and household needs water to function and performing daily tasks. So, providing water free of charge is the basic right of every living person. However, providing all for free can also cause many harm to the society and future generation, but in conclusion with every point of disagreement the only conclusion that holds in the end is that it is a need of human to have access to clean water without any charge.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether clean water should be provided free of charge, presenting both the view that it is a basic human right and the counter-argument regarding resource depletion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the introduction and conclusion repeatedly state that water is a basic human right without adding significant depth. The counter-argument touches upon households wasting water and affecting future generations, which is relevant, but it remains brief and under-developed. While a clear position is eventually established that favors the human right aspect despite potential drawbacks, the argumentation lacks detailed examples or structural progression. This performance aligns best with Band 5.5, as it addresses the task and attempts to present a position, but the ideas require greater expansion and clearer development throughout the body paragraphs to reach a higher level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive statements and somewhat disjointed transitions. Phrases like 'So, every individual needs water' and 'However, providing water abundantly...' attempt to link ideas, but the cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or inaccurate. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph repeats points made earlier without adding new progression. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'many problem arising out of the situation' without fully specifying the referent. Overall arrangement displays some organisation, but the lack of smooth overall progression places this performance firmly at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic terms such as 'basic human rights', 'water', 'free of charge', and 'needs'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'lossing water' instead of 'wasting water', 'amundant amount' instead of 'abundant amount', and 'cause many harm' instead of 'cause much harm'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'surcharge' and 'natural resources', inaccuracies in word choice and spelling persist throughout the text. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the range and precision of the response, corresponding to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('These basic needs includes', 'lossing water now ultimately effects'), missing articles ('from their birth', 'as basic right'), and awkward phrasing ('Our bodies made up of 70% of water'). Complex structures are often faulty, and punctuation errors are noticeable. While the meaning remains generally understandable, the high frequency of structural inaccuracies prevents the response from achieving a Band 6.0. Therefore, a Band 5.0 is appropriate as the frequent errors cause occasional difficulty and distraction for the reader.
