Student answer (Band 6.0)

Access to clean environment is basic human right. And in our country Pakistan, it is coded under Article 10-A of Constitution Of Pakistan 1973 i.e. right to clean environment. And this clean environment include access to clean water for drinking, washing, bathing and other household purposes.

But, if we look deeper into reality, we'll get to witness that, there are so many issues in claiming or redeeming even your fundamental rights from the state. The state is so busy doing other stuff, because of which many of your fundamental rights got infringed. Although, in many parts of Pakistan, there is clean water availabe for home usage and drinking purposes, but in many areas, people need to buy clean water for drinking and some other purposes. Like, in Karachi, most people do not have free access to clean water. If you talk about northern reigon of the country, people get fresh water from waterfalls and rivers which is coming from the melting glaciers. However, that water is fulfilling their daily needs but it is not recommended for drinking purposes without filtration. But, those poor people do not have any other option except drinking the same. Because the state is unable to provide them clean and filtered water.

In order to meet this challenging situation, the Government should pass a project, in which, every home should get a clean and filtered water supply free of charge. And, if it doesn't, then the people should raise this concern, and demand their basic needs in a peaceful manner or through legal way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether clean water should be provided free of charge, presenting a clear position that the government should ensure free access. The writer incorporates personal knowledge and examples from Pakistan, citing the constitution and specific regions like Karachi and the northern areas to support the argument. However, the discussion of whether it should specifically be provided free of charge is somewhat underdeveloped, as the text shifts toward the general difficulty of claiming fundamental rights rather than deeply analyzing the economic or social implications of free public utilities. Ideas are relevant and clear, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors where all parts are addressed, though some aspects are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression from the premise of basic rights to local realities and finally to a proposed solution. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, the body discussion, and the conclusion. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, seen in conversational transitions like 'And in our country' or 'But, if we look deeper'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother with more varied cohesive devices. This fits the Band 6 profile, where the writing is coherent overall, but referencing and cohesion exhibit some mechanical patterns.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'fundamental rights', 'infringed', 'glaciers', and 'filtration'. There are, however, several word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'availabe' instead of available, 'reigon' instead of region, and the slightly awkward collocation 'pass a project' instead of 'launch a project' or 'implement a scheme'. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, which corresponds directly to the Band 6 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure through conditional clauses and relative clauses (e.g., 'If you talk about northern reigon...'). However, there are frequent punctuation and grammatical errors, including sentence fragments ('And in our country Pakistan...'), missing articles ('Constitution Of Pakistan'), and comma splices ('The state is so busy doing other stuff, because of which many of your fundamental rights got infringed'). These errors do not impede overall communication, placing the grammar comfortably at Band 6.
