IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge.
Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Pure water is necessary for humans so it should be provided free of cost as it is the right of public. I partially agree with this statement. Although availability of clean water is crucial but free water supply will leads many issues.
On one hand, water free of harmful entites is beneficial for all. Drinking unclean water can cause many considerable issues like water born diseases. Some of these are typhoid, dysentary, hepatitis. while availibility of pure water will demolish all these issues. Additionally germ free water is needed for cooking so clean water is crucial to maintain health moreover it is also necessary for other household purposes like cooking and washing.
On the other hand, the supply of free water can cause numerous problems like the public take it for granted and waste water in many cases such as open taps and do no care, give excessive water to plants. These circumstances will leads to scarcity of water and public will face water shortage in the future. To mitigate the crises the government should supply a specific amount of water per day and if more water is needed the citizens have to pay for that so they do not take it for granted and use water for need and not waste it.
To sum up, provide clean water to citizens is crucial because it relates with the health and government should not take it light otherwise the consequences will be destructive while totally free supply of water is not beneficial approach. This will cause burden on government so totally free supply should be prohibited.
