Student answer (Band 6.0)
Having access to clean water is a basic human right, so each home should be provided a water supply for free. I strongly agree that access to clean water is very important for everyone to live a healthy life.
Many densely populated countries across the world are facing water shortage issues. People living in such areas even do not have enough clean water to drink and for their daily use. So the government's of these countries should provide them clean water supply, so they can live a healthy life. For instance, in luxury societies clean water is readily available because they have proper supply of water, so authorities should take action and provide each home with a water supply.
Access to pure water can potentially reduce the risk of getting diseases, as most of them are caused by drinking dirty water. Due to this there will be a decline in the number of people being diseased and they would no have to spend extra money on their health care. The government's may charge a fee for this water supply annually but it should be low and easy to be paid by everyone. This would encourage citizens not to waste water and use it carefully. For instance, people do not value things that are free so that is why government should charge some money to make citizens responsible.
By providing clean water to everyone will also diminish the difference between rich and poor, as before, only rich people were accessible to pure water.
In conclusion, everyone should have access to clean water as it is our fundamental right. This would be extremely beneficial for the whole population of the world and for the well-being being of humanity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a nuanced stance that initially agrees with free water supply but later qualifies it by suggesting a low annual fee to prevent wastage. The position is clear throughout the response. Ideas are generally relevant, such as discussing disease reduction and equality between the rich and poor, though some arguments shift slightly mid-essay regarding whether the water should be entirely free or involve a small charge. This reflects a Band 6.0 performance, where all parts are addressed and a position is presented, but some ideas show minor internal contradictions or under-development in their reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate different arguments, such as health benefits versus civic responsibility regarding water usage. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Due to this' and 'so that is why' are overly simplistic. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in 'most of them are caused by drinking dirty water' where the antecedent for 'them' is slightly ambiguous. This corresponds well to Band 6.0 descriptors for logical organisation and manageable, though sometimes faulty, cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'densely populated', 'fundamental right', and 'healthcare'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are sometimes accompanied by inaccuracies or awkward collocations, such as 'rich people were accessible to pure water' instead of 'had access to pure water'. Spelling and word-choice errors are present ('government's' instead of 'governments', 'no have' instead of 'not have'), but these do not impede overall communication. This performance aligns closely with the Band 6.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over conditional and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'As most of them are caused by drinking dirty water'). However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including apostrophe misuse ('government's' for plurals), missing articles ('provide them clean water supply'), and awkward phrasing ('By providing clean water to everyone will also diminish'). While these errors are noticeable and require occasional rereading, they rarely impede overall comprehension. This balance of mixed structures and persistent errors is characteristic of a Band 6.0 score.
