Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is an ongoing debate about the access of clean water for general public. As water is the basic need of the citizens the government should provide clean and healthy water to the public as its the basic right of the citizens. I strongly agree that public should be given free facilities by the government, as it plays a significant role in the individual's life. Furthermore, water is the daily necessity of the general public, because it helps in physical well- being of a person and helps to keep the body hydrate.

In today's rapidly evolving world, the issue of clean water has become a matter of considerable public interest, promoting widespread debate regarding its impact on individuals and society.

There are several important aspects of water, the water is becoming detrimental because of public throwing waste and garbage in the dams and lakes. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that clean water should be provided free of charge by the government. The writer attempts to support this viewpoint by mentioning health benefits and environmental concerns, such as pollution in dams and lakes. However, the ideas are somewhat repetitive and lack deep extension. Sentences like "water is the daily necessity of the general public, because it helps in physical well-being" are underdeveloped, and some arguments shift slightly toward general environmental protection rather than focusing strictly on free household water supply. While all parts of the task are addressed, the level of development and support corresponds to a Band 6.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, demonstrating an attempt at logical organization. There is a discernible progression of ideas, moving from the introduction of the topic and the writer's stance to environmental concerns, health implications, and a conclusion. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the sudden transition regarding water "becoming detrimental because of public throwing waste." Paragraphing is visible, but internal transitions between sentences could be smoother to enhance the overall flow. These characteristics align closely with the Band 6 descriptor for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for communicating the main message, featuring attempts at less common lexical items such as "detrimental," "ecosystem," and "underprivileged people." However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as "strike rules and regulation" instead of strict rules and regulations, and "keep the body hydrate" instead of hydrated. Additionally, spelling errors like "fugus" instead of fungus detract from lexical precision. Because the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning despite these errors and occasional awkwardness, a Band 5.5 score is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional forms ("If chemicals are involved then it can cause...") and subordinate clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several punctuation and agreement errors, including missing articles and incorrect possessives, as seen in "as its the basic right" (its instead of it's), "every individuals" instead of every individual, and run-on phrasing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from achieving a Band 6.0, fitting the Band 5.5 descriptors well.
