Student answer (Band 5.0)
Water is a basic need to live and access to it should be easy and free. Its crucial for our heath and biosystem to have clean water. Without water human body can survive only 3 days so it makes water absolute important factor for living. It is claimed that the water we use at home is not pure and drinkable. We should use a filter or boil water before drinking it. That's why
companies like Nestle sell clean water and makes millions with minimum efforts of water purifying.
Today due to population access to clean water is becoming very difficult and expensive. Moreover dirty water is a source of several health problems. Most areas where access to clean water is not available different heath issues had been recorded. So, these reasons makes it a human right to have clean water accessable to everyone.
I believe there should be an organization responsible to deliver clean water to every home. If it is not suitable then athurities should install a filter and a water pump(motor) at every home for free of charges. Its quite expensive to dig and access clean water because now they have to dig deeper. In Pakistan average dig level is 35 meters to get drinkable water. Therefore I think government should have a policy where public can apply for filter and pump installation at home for free of charges.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response presents a clear position that clean water is a basic right and should be provided free of charge, supported by arguments regarding health and government responsibility. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement, coming in at 231 words instead of the required 250. This under-length severely limits the depth of task fulfilment, as ideas are left somewhat underdeveloped, particularly the counter-arguments and economic implications. For instance, the mention of Nestlé and water purification is abrupt and lacks full integration into the main argument about free water supply. Consequently, the score is capped by the length penalty and underdeveloped idea extension.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some logical organisation with a discernible introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion, yet overall progression is hindered by abrupt transitions and choppy paragraphing. For example, the transition from commercial water bottles to health problems in paragraph two lacks a cohesive link ('Today due to population access...'). Cohesive devices are used minimally and sometimes inaccurately, such as the sudden shift into personal examples regarding Pakistan in the final paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but the structural flow feels fragmented, leading to a mechanical feel that aligns closely with Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited but minimally adequate for discussing the topic, featuring basic vocabulary such as 'basic need', 'clean water', and 'government'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, including 'health and biosystem' instead of 'ecosystem', 'absolute important factor' instead of 'absolutely important', and 'dig level' instead of 'drilling depth'. Spelling errors are also present, such as 'heath' instead of 'health' and 'athurities' instead of 'authorities'. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty or distraction for the reader, placing the response solidly in the Band 5 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('If it is not suitable then...') and relative clauses. However, the range of structures is limited and accuracy is weak. Frequent grammatical errors occur throughout the text, including missing articles ('Without water human body can survive'), subject-verb agreement issues ('these reasons makes it'), and missing prepositions ('free of charges' instead of 'free of charge'). Punctuation is also careless in places. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band.
