Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, there has been a growing debate whether every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. While some people believe disagree with this view that it should not be free of cost, I firmly agree with this idea that every home should have free water supply because it is a basic necessity and it can help in improving public health. This essay will explain main reason for my postion.
One major reason why I agree with this veiw is that water is a basic necessity for every living being. This is mainly because without water the world cannot progress efficently, it is used in cooking, cleaning, drinking and health etc. For instance, sometimes the main cause of disputes among nations is water. As a result, water should be free regardless of individual's income.
Another important reason is that it can help in improving publics health. Free access to clean water can help to reduce various health diseases and can improve individuals and country well-being. For example, you can help a sick poor person by giving them free water. As a result, homes providing free water can help in improving the well-being of poeple who can't afford it.
In conclusion, I agree with the view that homes should have a water supply that is provided free of charge because having basic necessities is the right of every human being and free water can help in improving the well-being of the lower class people who can't afford it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that every home should have free water access, supporting it with arguments related to basic human necessities and public health. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the second body paragraph relies on general statements like 'water is a basic necessity for every living being' without deeply exploring economic or infrastructural implications. The conclusion also largely restates previous points rather than extending them. According to the Band 6 descriptors, the task is addressed and relevant ideas are presented, but some parts feel under-developed. Therefore, a band score of 6.0 is appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay is arranged with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an overall logical progression. Cohesive devices are employed to connect sentences, such as 'One major reason why' and 'Another important reason is'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, the introductory paragraph contains confusing phrasing ('While some people believe disagree with this view that it should not be free of cost'), which disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor where information and ideas are coherent overall despite some mechanical cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'necessity', 'disputes', and 'well-being'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors, such as 'efficently' instead of efficiently, 'position' misspelled as 'postion', 'veiw' instead of view, and 'publics health' instead of public health. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect the limitations characteristic of Band 6, where the writer attempts less common vocabulary with occasional inaccuracies in word choice and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. Complex structures are attempted, such as 'One major reason why I agree with this veiw is that water is a basic necessity...'. However, grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text, including tense and agreement issues (e.g., 'people believe disagree', 'homes providing free water'). Punctuation is also occasionally weak, such as comma splices or missing commas. Because these errors occur regularly alongside a mix of sentence types, the writing fits the Band 6 profile for grammar and accuracy.
