Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that availability of the pure water is a basic human right which should be provided to all the residents of society at no charge. Although, I am also agree to this convicting viewpoint that clean water should be accessible for everyone free of cost.
Supply of water is getting scarce day by day, while it is a natural resource but people are juggling over this condition. The most compelling reason for this perspective that availability of fresh water is a basic need of humans and for doing all house chores, for drinking purposes, for washing and for watering plants. Therefore, water should be in easy access to the proponents without any charge so they can mange their daily life.
However, access to the free water can also contribute to arise various factors that can not be neglected. For instance, availability of free water can loss its worth because people will not pay attention to its usage, spillage, leakage and waste a significant amount over nothing. For this purpose, government should provide them with the calculated amount of water for weeks and fortnights so that people will get to know more about the value of water.
Eventually, it is concluded that water is a basic human right which cannot be given with money but simultaneously its careful usage is also the responsibility of humans. It should be monitored by government to reduce wastage of our natural resource.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear stance that clean water should be a free basic human right while also acknowledging potential drawbacks related to wastage. However, the response has a significant drawback regarding length: it contains only 240 words, failing to meet the minimum requirement of 250 words. This under-length impacts the full development of ideas, leading to some points being slightly repetitive or under-developed. For example, the discussion on government monitoring could be extended further. Consequently, Task Achievement is penalised for not meeting the word count, aligning best with a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a clear overall arrangement with logical progression. Each paragraph has a distinct focus: introduction, arguments supporting free water, counter-arguments about wastage, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'Although', 'The most compelling reason', 'However', and 'Eventually'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'proponents' used instead of 'population' or 'citizens'. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but the cohesion within sentences occasionally falters due to grammatical slips. This performance fits comfortably within the Band 6.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the task, including terms like 'natural resource', 'house chores', 'compelling reason', and 'significance'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'availability of the pure water' (extra article and unnatural adjective), 'juggling over this condition', 'loss its worth' (should be 'lose'), and 'calculated amount'. These inaccuracies and awkward phrasings limit precision and show a lack of control over less common lexical items. The lexical range is adequate for the task but contains enough errors to warrant a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using conditional and subordinate clauses such as 'Although, I am also agree...' and '...so that people will get to know more about...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including 'I am also agree' (incorrect form), 'availability of free water can loss' (modal verb error), 'mange' (spelling/form error), and punctuation issues. These errors occasionally cause slight confusion for the reader, though they do not completely impede overall communication. This level of control corresponds to a Band 5.5.
