Student answer (Band 5.5)

I strongly agree that clean water is a basic need of life and authoritoes hsould provide clean water free of cost. Although some people believe that water supply cost a handsome amount of money, it is, indeed, the basic right of food and water. This essay will discuss the main arguments supporting this position and explain why this concern is valid.

Life without water is impossible. Therefore, water should be free all over the world. Basic needs should not be considered as profitable business but humanitarian law which goverment should employ. Especially, clean water for consumption purposes. Hard water or tap water is contaminated that boost the health issues especially in kids. Diseases are more likely to be spread now other than in past decades. Because fresh water was easier for human life to accesss and consume in their cooking and also making drinks. According to WHO, lead, uranium and other harmful elements are found in daily use water which created new diseases related to kidney and skin too. Malnutrition among children is more common now due to unaffordability of water. The promotion of water in a plastic bottle is also giving harm to children, passengers, students as well as workers. Companies like Nestle, or Gorment etc are promoting water from plastic bottles which is contaminated when preserved in more than 30 degree Celcius in hot regions. This trend harms us financially and physically without alarming parents, employees or passengers in that region.

In conclusion, authorities should provide fresh and clean water for everyone despite being wealthy. There should be proper arrangment in water supply from house-to-house and shop-to-shop. Public water coolers or taps should be available for passengers or passing by. Industrial waste should be properly managed by waste committee so that it will not contaminate rivers or canals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The candidate presents a clear position throughout the response, strongly agreeing that clean water should be provided free of charge as a basic human right. The main arguments are introduced in the introduction, expanded upon in the body paragraph regarding health issues, WHO findings, and bottled water concerns, and reiterated in the conclusion. However, the ideas lack full development and depth, drifting into somewhat tangential points regarding plastic bottles and specific companies like Nestlé rather than focusing solely on the core socio-economic and governmental implications of universal free water provision. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the over-generalisation and slight digression keep the score at Band 6.0 according to official descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised, separating the introduction, the main body of arguments, and the concluding thoughts. However, progression is sometimes hindered by abrupt transitions and a dense, slightly disjointed flow of ideas within the central paragraph. Cohesive devices are occasionally mechanical or faulty, such as the abrupt shift to 'Especially, clean water for consumption purposes' and referencing issues with pronouns like 'This trend harms us'. Overall, the logical structure is visible, fitting the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The candidate demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'humanitarian law', 'unaffordability', and 'contaminate'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the writing, including 'authoritoes' for authorities, 'goverment' for government, 'arrangment' for arrangement, and awkward collocations like 'boost the health issues'. Although these errors do not severely impede communication, the frequency of lexical slips and basic spelling inaccuracies prevents the essay from reaching a higher band, comfortably placing it at a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over multi-clause structures such as 'Although some people believe that water supply cost a handsome amount of money...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent, featuring noticeable errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('water supply cost'), tense inconsistencies, and fragments ('Especially, clean water for consumption purposes'). Punctuation is also occasionally faulty. These frequent minor errors and occasional faulty complex structures mean the writing aligns best with the Band 5.0 descriptors, where errors can cause some difficulty for the reader.
