Student answer (Band 5.0)

Every individual has the right to have drinkable water. For this reason it should be provided in every house unit without any charge. I do agree with this statement.

Availability of pure water is the righteous demand of every person. Without it no one can survive, moreover there is a need of clean water. Unclean water can cause many diseases like diarrhea and other infections, that take long time to cure.

And providing of pure water must be without any peny because it can lower the financial burden on the family earner and also on the government body. A bread earner of 4 members cannot afford water to complete everyday need and it will be heavy on his account. If a human being will not get a right source of water, then he will be affected by polluted one and all expense of his illness will cause indirect burden on government bodies.

In conclusion, availability of the processed water to drink must be available to every house without need of spending money on it, as it is an individual basic righ.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student presents a clear position agreeing that free water should be provided to every home. However, the response falls significantly short of the required 250 words, containing only 181 words. Due to this under-length penalty, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. While the writer mentions the health benefits of clean water and the economic impact on families and governments, these points remain under-developed rather than fully extended with specific examples. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a band score of 5.0 in accordance with the descriptors for limited development and failure to meet the minimum word count requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is organised into four paragraphs with a basic introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and are occasionally unnatural, such as 'And providing of pure water must be without any peny' starting a sentence. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the economic burden on families and governments. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance, in 'a right source of water, then he will be affected by polluted one'. Overall, the logical flow is mechanical rather than smooth, fitting the Band 5 descriptor for some organisation without clear overall progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'financial burden', 'government body', and 'processed water', but there are noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'peny' instead of 'penny', 'righteous demand' instead of 'rightful demand', and 'basic righ' instead of 'basic right'. Additionally, there is repetition of basic terms like 'water', 'clean', and 'provide'. While communication is generally maintained despite these errors, the vocabulary lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands, placing this response firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Without it no one can survive, moreover there is a need of clean water.' However, attempts at complex sentences frequently contain grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including subject-verb agreement issues ('every house unit', 'all expense of his illness') and missing articles ('without any peny', 'on government bodies'). Punctuation is generally functional, but frequent grammatical inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate poor control over complex forms. This aligns with the Band 5 descriptor for frequent errors that can cause difficulty.
