Student answer (Band 6.0)

Water is one of the basic need of human life, either for living or doing daily life chores, I totally agree with the idea that water should be provided to everyone free of cost.

Clean water is not the only basis need for human, but it is also essential for daily house chores, if clean water is not available, many individuals, especially the unprivileged families might not possible afford drinking water, which will force them to drink unfiltered water and they will become vulnerable to many diseases, not only internal but external such as skin diseases as well. Most probably, in those situation, children and infants got highly effect by those diseases. They hardly afford to meet their daily lives need, it would be unfair to them. Unavailability of clean water and diseases caused by this will lead to pay medical bills that can affect their lives terribly.

Although the procedure to provide clean water to every household must be complicated, there are some government sectors who work to provide clean water and those costs should be Acomodated from tax budgets. Every citizen pay taxes for this and it should be accommodate through taxes without further charges. It is a government responsibility that every household should receive the clean water for drinking.

In my conclusion, the drinking water is one of the essential need for human life. The consequences are far worse than benefits. The government need to take action action and manage the expenses through taxes so the lower family could relieve from paying extra money, along with other live's needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that water should be provided free of charge. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the health risks of unfiltered water for underprivileged families and the funding of this service through taxes. However, some parts of the response are more fully developed than others, pointing towards the partial realization of higher band standards. For instance, the discussion on health consequences and financial burdens in the second paragraph is extended, whereas the explanation of government logistics in the third paragraph remains somewhat generalized and brief. To reach higher bands, the student needs to fully develop every supporting point with more detailed examples or broader contextual analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and maintained throughout the body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, such as health implications and government funding. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with referencing that is not always entirely clear. For example, transitional phrases and connective tissue between sentences could be managed more smoothly, as seen in the transition between the health discussion and the financial aspects in the third paragraph. To improve further, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices to link ideas naturally without relying on repetitive structures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and subject-specific terms such as 'underprivileged families', 'unfiltered water', and 'tax budgets'. However, there are noticeable limitations in lexical control and word choice, along with some spelling and word-form errors that do not impede overall communication. Examples of these inaccuracies include phrases like 'basic need of human life' instead of 'basic need for human life', 'basis need' instead of 'basic need', 'got highly effect' instead of 'are highly affected', and the spelling error 'Acomodated'. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range and improve precision in word choice and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures to explain cause and effect, such as clauses involving 'if clean water is not available' and 'which will force them'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'every citizen pay taxes' instead of 'pays' and 'the government need' instead of 'needs', as well as missing articles ('the lower family' instead of 'lower-income families'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the reader can easily follow the argument. To progress, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences when using complex grammatical structures and refine control over articles and subject-verb agreement.
